DURHAM — Former Duke University basketball stars Christian Laettner and Brian Davis are scheduled to be in court facing possible jail time.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reports the teammates on Duke's 1991 and 1992 NCAA championship teams been ordered to a Washington, D.C., courtroom Friday to tell a judge why they shouldn't be held in contempt of court for failing to pay a real estate debt.

Laettner and Davis didn't return calls seeking comment this week.

The hearing involves an earlier ruling that their company Blue Devil Ventures must pay more than $670,000 to California investors who loaned money to develop property in Baltimore. Attorneys for the investors say Laettner and Davis haven't paid the judgment and ignored requests to show whether they have assets available to pay.

Damn. I'm sure it won't come to that, but the bright side is some correctional facility's basketball team could be looking at a huge improvement soon (the basketball equivalent of "Mean Machine").

Seriously, I don't think it will come to that..............could it????

Good point. Who knew that Davis and Laetter would follow in Greg Paulus' footsteps to become Orangemen?

I mean, I knew Laettner was competitive, but THIS one-uppmanship is ridiculous!

I sure hope that two digits is as long a number as Christian and Brian have to wear during their lifetimes.

They caught a break. But there have been plenty of Buyers for the Downtown Durham buildings.

And Some people, think they are Above the Law, anyway; I presume a sense of entitlement. ie (Law enforcement people, attorneys, Entertainers, Athletes, Congress, President, Senators, Coaches, The Rich and Famous, etc etc). Not saying, that these two, are above the law............. but living in the Triangle, you always hear everyone's opinions and comments!
