THAT WAS SUPER AWESOME!!!!!

I was on the bottom floor of our building, and we are right next to the train track, so we shake all the time from the train, but we can also hear the train. Not this time, noticed my chair swaying side to side. That was just flat out funky. The guy in the office next to me didn't feel it, but the girl above me was freaking out. Very cool stuff, I've had my earthquake cherry popped!

Reports indicate that tremors were felt as far west as Banner Elk. I felt a tremor here as well.

What's next?

Centered in Mineral, VA, east of Charlottesville, west of Richmond. 5.9 on the Richter scale.

It was the Richmond Spiders shaking in their shoes.

I was out buying some water at a C-store, the extent of my hurricane prep for the weekend. Literally. OK, tonight's lottery tickets too. I was putting the cases of water in the car. Mrs. Ozzie stayed home sick today. I got in the car and she called, asking "did we just have an earthquake?" Huh? What you talkin' bout woman? Are you crazy? No, of course not. Hung up. I started the car and the radio came on. The guy on the radio was talking about feeling the earthquake in NY, it being centered near D.C. Oh. I called Mrs. Ozzie back and told her she was right, she DID feel an earthquake. I went to the bank and asked if they felt it? They said yes, the windows shook and the desk in the center shook.

I never felt it. I've never been in an earthquake before and I missed it I don't want to be in a big one, I don't want to be in California when it slides into the ocean. But this one, yeah...

I thought Hurricane Irene's winds had blown in a bit early. Those of us who were seated at our desks felt this one. Our girls who were running around the office felt nothing. I'm accustomed to feeling the earthquakes, just not here in the swamps of eastern North Carolina.

I thought originally it was a portly attorney running down the hall of the courthouse to make it to court on time. Then I realized the local portly attorney needs knee surgery and is using a cane, and is in no shape to run.

We occasionally have courthouse bomb threats, so the ladies of the office did what we always do; grabbed purses and went out to the parking lot, where we all called various relatives and friends to see if anyone knew what was going on. We gathered with us an extremely nervous juvenile intake officer and a very pregnant and weepy probation officer.

"Experience an Earthquake" is not and has never been on my bucket list.

I did experience item #17 on my bucket list recently, as you know. ;)

I've been in a few from my days in the LA area, mainly aftershocks of Northridge.(Above 5 on the scale). I didn't notice this one at all in Ohio, my cube mates did.

Of all the luck - I move away from DC, TO Seattle, and *still* miss my first earthquake....

DA, my MIL in Tacoma called last night and talked to us about her earthquake plan, and about our need to have one.
