Latest work(s)
I posted an early preview of this in the good night thread. (I was up waaaaay too late painting.) Cathy asked for the back story, which is that one of my computer clients (A Duke grad) asked me to come out and take photos of her grandkids for a possible painting. I have never heard much back from her besides just that she entertained the idea, but the pics are too great not to do something with them. (I should have charged her for the photo session, I probably will in the future.) Anyways, I took a ton of pics, and really liked the setting and mood that this scene presented. I'll probably do some more from that same day in the near future.

Yep. You should charge away. At least for your gas to the site!!!! I gotta admit to being jealous of your painting time! Make the most of it, big guy! I know you value it and are grateful to have it.

A quarter? Don't you drive an Explorer? Yup, charge her. You should also tell her about the painting. I bet she will want to see it. After she sees it, she will want you to paint the other grand kids.

I agree that a fee for a photo session is in order...... it will help you "qualify" clients as the sales force calls it.

Re: Latest work(s)
Well, here's where I'm at. I emailed her the paintings, in a way to remind her but mostly because I love the paintings and wanted to share. She wrote back that she loved them, and that her and her daughters "want to move along - just other stuff gets in the way" and asked that if I could come this Saturday to take more pics. Ugh! I haven't even gotten anything out of the first session except for complements. But here's the kicker, and a chance for me to turn this into something greater. Saturday, at her home, on the waterfront, they are christening all three kids. After the ceremony, they are having a lunch. She has invited me out for both, camera in hand, but I think I will skip the ceremony. I will be there for lunch though, not only with camera in hand, but with both paintings. My guess is there will be a nice size crowd there, mostly consisting of parents, uncles, aunts and grandparents. I probably could not ask for a better crowd to demonstrate my talents to, plus I get to take more pics. If I'm lucky, there will be other kids there. (I'm sure I'll be lucky.)Devil in the Blue Dress wrote:I agree that a fee for a photo session is in order...... it will help you "qualify" clients as the sales force calls it.
I didn't charge her for the first session, so I would feel odd charging her for the second. Plus, if she pulls the trigger, this could be a big sale (just her alone). However, if anyone else at the lunch is interested in their junior getting his moment in front of the lens, I will tell them up front there will be a fee.

These situations are never simple, are they? I think you have a very good plan to make the best of this and maybe get some more work to boot.CameronBornAndBred wrote:Well, here's where I'm at. Well, first off, the second painting is the winner if you ask me. The reflected light coming up on his face is really nice. And the painting draws you in to ask "What could have happened? Why is he so intent on that little foot?"
And the christening gig sounds like a real opportunity. At the very least, you'll get lunch out of the deal!
