The Middle Finger

What does it mean to you? I grew up thinking it meant "Go to Hell." But as I have grown older, the meaning has shifted to more of a "Fuck You." What did you always think it meant?

Well, really, what is the difference in those two sentiments? Aren't they both among the lowest of insults?

I believe it's meaning has it's roots from proctology. It used to be displayed with the exclamation, "Up yours!"
