My Ride Blew Up

POP!!!!

That was the last thing I heard while driving through Graham on I-40/I-85 right before my Explorer lost all power. In the fast lane. With three trucks to my rear and right.
I did eventually coast 4 lanes over to the shoulder without becoming a road pancake...but crapola. Two and half hours later I would have been to mom's. An hour earlier, I would have been in serious Raleigh traffic.

I find out tomorrow what the bad news is. Hoping it's only kinda bad, and not real bad. I'm 200 miles from home on a holiday weekend. (By the way...develop friendships every where you travel..they pay off. I have a roof over my head right now for me and Xiola because of friends and a stroke of luck that they were home.) :ymhug:

I can fully understand CB&B! I have my vehicle in the shop right now! Just had it serviced, inspected and new NC vehicle tag and new tires. 3 weeks later, I am leaving grocery store and hear a horrible noise under the hood. I wasnt far from the house, so I drove slow and coasted and glided down the hills. Got a rental car, and had the car towed to the shop.

IS your Car still in Graham? Or where did you tow it? Need an Alamance County mechanic or was the car towed to the local Ford Dealership (too expensive).

You are fortunate with the truck drivers, driving so close behind, and your vehicle lost all power that you werent a pancake.

The POP happened to me with a Cadi a few years ago, and I was on the Interstate and glided over 2 lanes, also. Thank goodness there was a nice State Trooper not to far behind, to assist me. And I was close to a shop, to have it towed. (Out of town, also. 120 miles from home). It was not the engine or motor. And with the tow, $25, the final bill was around $300. I had just left friends, and on the road for several miles when that happend. They came and got me, and I stayed with them, until the car was fixed the next day.

I sincerely hope Your Car gets fixed and is on the mend soon! It is a sick feeling. Especially, to be out of town! And it is a Holiday weekend. Thoughts and Vibes go to you! I know how you feel! Yuck feeling. :ymhug: :ymhug:

Fordgrl's uncle is the one looking at it, the car is at one of their other relatives. So I get to unexpectedly help celebrate her birthday AND have my car looked at by someone not out to rip me off. We'll head over later this morning and look at it, right now he's baking birthday brownies.

You are so very fortunate not to have been hit by any other vehicles. Thursday was a bad day on the highways in the Triangle, too much like bumper cars with very serious consequences! Similar snarls and mishaps around Charlotte yesterday.

Sorry to hear of this. Hopefully it won't be too extensive a repair. Had you been a little closer, I'd offer a ride up the hill. Gotta go fish, mow, eat, drink, sleep and watch others burn dollars in the form of explosives.

I hate when that happens. Although it's a shot in the dark, not knowing age and mileage of vehice, I'm guessing timing belt. Glad you were able to get off the road safely... Hopefully it's easier and cheaper to fix than that...

That has indeed been a one of the thoughts thrown out. Due to Scott's already planned parental duties, we are looking at it tomorrow.

Sorry about this, CB&B. I'm glad you know people, though, and that you and Xiola are safe.

Vibes that it won't be that bad! :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :O3

Sounds like an electrical prob of some kind, doesn't it. So glad you're safe and in good and friendly hands. Try to enjoy your weekend. Here's hoping it has a happy ending.
Love, Ima

Yay I'm home! It took three of us a few hours to get the tank out, it was stubborn! So now I have a car that drives...AND a fuel guage that works, so that's a nice bonus. (The old float was bad, and is included in the fuel pump assembly.) So I had always assumed after 240 miles I was about to run out of gas, turns out I had been filling it up when it was still over half full..haha. At least I would never have run out of gas, there were still 10 gallons in there when we dropped it, I thought there would be two at the most.

I recently installed a gas tank...I had fun doing it. I did have the benefit of having the car on a lift.

CB&B, so glad you have your vehicle back on the road with a gas gauge that works! My car is still in the shop! Hopefully, ready this afternoon. Expensive repairs! Ugh. :(
