We have had to learn a lot about Willie. I consider him a service dog. Specifically, I believe him to be a 'Smelling-Nose Dog'. Well...he has a nose, and he smells. But, he has a heart of gold and I'm olfactory-challenged. :twitch: He has super powers in this area. When threatened or nervous, he has the power to release a toxic gas that can render the most powerful among us mere humans, to be reduced to a quivering mass of gasping protoplasm. Don't make him use it!

When he needs to go out, he will go get his leash, bring it to you and shake it about. Take him out, but keep your safe distance. He does have digestive issues. These issues are very evident in the onset of a thunderstorm. He seems to be 'storm-scared'. Having been victim to this phenonmena with another dog...I still don't have the answer for relief. Advice would be happily recieved.

Willie loves to ride. Mention the word 'ride' and it has the same effect on him as Kryptonite on Superman. His ears pick up and he does a little dance of excitement that brings him just short of collapse. So far, it must occur on a daily basis. With the recovery from his mild ankle injury, and his age, he requires a little help to get up onto the seat. When installed on his proper seating position and the door shut, he will then step across to my driver's seat, but then after I have made my way around and reaching for the door handle, he will step back across to his proper side.

Should Willie's previous landlords make an appearance for claim...at this point, I will concede only at the time of satisfactorily paid compensation. This would include the vacancy that his removal would create in our home, even though we recognize that all pet ownership never ends very well.

Willie wants to go fishing. I agree that he should. ;)

Willie's digestive problem could be his food. I know if Harley eats meat, he has the same problem, or I should say, we have the same problem. We feed Harley Costco's brand of dry dog food. Our vet recommended it. It's a great price. We were buying his food for Pet Smart. It was almost $20.00 more a bag. I drizzle olive oil on his food. His coat is beautiful and gas is not a problem. Give Willie a hug for me. :O3

Our Aussie, Rider, fears loud noises. I'm not sure what happened during his youth, but things like fireworks and thunderstorms make him uneasy. If it storms during the day, he comes into my office and curls up under the desk next to my feet; on the weekends he'll get as close to me as possible.

When storms approach, or July 4th rolls around, we turn up the radio in the house to help drown out some of the noise. This seems to work pretty well for distant thunder, and things like fireworks in the street, but there isn't much we can do for the really loud thunderclaps. In some cases, a Kong will keep him occupied and calm his nerves. No matter what, we just try to give him as much comfort as possible; sometimes that means sitting on the floor and just giving him a good brushing.

Have fun fishing!

Being a tad underweight, we started out with 'Puppy Chow', due to it's high nutrition content. He has since switched to 'Purina One'...and cookies. :ymblushing: :D

Thanks for your experience. A storm rolled through last night and I was watching TV. I increased the volume and just kept physical contact. It seemed to help but he did still shiver throughout. I dodn't know how he'll behave if alone.

Meanwhile... fishing. Yes, fun. We had a crew of drunken youths camped out at the bottom of the hill, by the feeder creek. They parked their cars in the yard around the house. Good for them I didn't need to mow grass at this time. I heard of their revelry from the guy across the road, who explained how their behavior seemed to be upsetting. I was upset after they left and I found their discarded wine bottles and empty beer cans along the road. They got out before I had the chance to discuss the maintainence we demand when camping out down there. I have a good memory of their looks and vehicles, including vehicle tag nos.
