An Important Birthday Today

Post by colchar » June 9th, 2011, 2:27 pm

I doubt many people here would know or care, but today would have been Les Paul's 96th birthday so I just wanted to say thank you to the man who gave so many of us guitar players the greatest gift imaginable - the best guitar ever made, the Gibson Les Paul. As my avatar indicates, I love those things and am the proud owner of one.

The doodle on the Google homepage today is a tribute to him (you can even play it and record what you play).

R.I.P. Les and thanks so much for everything.

Mr. Paul was a man of true genius.
The only birthday wish, that I can think to offer, would be that he rest in peace.

My gorgeous Les Paul, Jessica (I named her after the Allman Brothers song), has been getting some extra love and attention today. In fact, I'm going to give her some more love now.

I toured the Gibson facility in Nashville a few years back when I was going to b-school(with DA). Several people there also had ties to Vandy.

Hell YES! I think of 'Ol Les and his influence every time I hear a Nirvana song or Starship's "We Built this City." Awesome guitar talents!

I am not being serious.............at all.

Seriously, good call on the birthday! Do you own a Les Paul?

Go to the Google home page today. It's a tribute to Les Paul.

Thank fuck for that. I damned near choked on my coffee when I read the word 'Nirvana'.

Yep, she is a gorgeous blonde Gibson Les Paul Traditional named Jessica (after the Allman Brothers song) and she weighs in at a solid 10lbs (slightly over that actually) so she is nice and solid. She is one of a limited run of 200 that were made for a Canadian retailer and that aren't available anywhere else. According to the serial number and info from Gibson, she was made right at the start of the production run for this model so she is one of the first to be made.

Here are a couple of pictures of her (the pictures suck but the guitar is gorgeous and she plays like butter):

I was thinking of getting a 1957 Gold Top Historic Reissue as well because Dickey Betts of the Allman Brothers is my favourite guitarist and he played a '57 Gold Top but Jessica is so perfect that I don't ever need to buy another Lester. I might, just to have a Gold Top, but I don't need to.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Ace of Base teams with Fleetwood Mac to become: BASE FLEET ACES! A couple songs:

1. I Saw the Leather & Lace (....and it opened up my eyes)

2. All that She Wants, is Another Landslide

3. It's a Beautiful Gypsy

4. Don't Turn Around; Go Your Own Way

All of which would still be better than anything Nirvana ever did.
