CB&B's San Francisco Journey

Tuesday we are off on our vacation, and I'm getting way excited. I've had our SF hotel booked for a while, we are staying in the Fisherman's Wharf area, a block away from the water. Friday night and Saturday night, we will be out of the city. Friday we will be in Yosemite, and Saturday we will make our way towards Muir woods. I still don't have lodging for Saturday, but I booked our Friday night stay, and it looks fun.



We are going to stay in the Housekeeping Camp, and that's one of the tents they have. There are electric outlets, but no tv, which is fine by me. The river is flowing close by, we should have lots to explore. I wish we had another day to spend, but time is limited.

I also emailed an old high school friend of mine about possible gallery connections in San Fran, and she luckily knows a few owners and has given them a heads up on my arrival. I'll hopefully be setting some meetings up for while we are there.

The only other actual agenda I have planned so far is the Alcatraz tour, which we are taking Sunday night. Supposedly the night tours are the best, you ferry out at sunset, it should be great.

I wish I'd coordinated Christian's flight to California with you. Instead of paying the $200 unaccompanied minor fee, I could have sent him to NorCal with the CB&B family next week.

Got my email from the airlines that I can go ahead and check in. I've used the pre check-in machines before, but never done it through the email. I'm only leary about it because we will be checking luggage. Some things I'd rather trust to humans.

If you have any concerns about the flight being over-booked, I'd check in now to ensure you get on the plane. On United it's really simple. Check in online and print your boarding pass. Then, at the airport, go to one of the baggage check kiosks to check your bags. A human should still be involved in the baggage check process.

Yeah, you usually use the machine and then someone from the airline will come by to check IDs and put the tags in the bags.

The 6 hour flight from Boston was slightly more enjoyable than a tooth extraction, but I did get to watch 2 movies. Marley & Me (so-so, but entertaining) and Inkheart, which was better than I expected, I might buy that one on DVD. Everything on the trip went smooth just very tiring. 2.5 hour car drive to RDU, 2 hour flight to Boston and 6 to SF. Got into the hotel about 4am EST. The rental has GPS with it, that was handy. The hotel charges $40+ a day for parking, that SUCKS. Wish I knew in advance, oh well. No idea what we'll do the next two days, it's up in the air, which is fun. I'm going to sleep now. Even exhausted, I'm always wired after a long trip and can't sleep right away.

Chris - glad you got there safely! I can't wait to see more pictures! Stupid question, but was is significance of Pier 39? I've never been to SF...... they do strange things there according to HBO!

I dunno what the significance of it is. It's a working pier, with a large marina attached to it. It's really just a very vibrant shopping district. Lots of food and unique stores. It was pretty crowded by the time we left, our hotel is across the street from it. Great views from over there, it looks out onto the bay and golden gate bridges, as well as Alcatraz.
