I thought the stripping of dignity occurred when they mixed the bulldog with a pug, resulting in today's stouter, less-than-hardy bulldog. Still though, I have a soft spot for bulldogs.

The bulldog breed standard is in the process of being revised to favor a taller, more robust dog, in keeping with the breed's late nineteenth-century appearance, when it was a strong and athletic breed. This is being done specifically in response to the fact that today's English bulldog is a distinctly unhealthy and unnatural animal in many ways.

When a bitch can not whelp a litter naturally because the heads are too big for natuarl birth that is a pretty good sign we've done screwed up the breed.
