Austin Rivers (and others) may have to stay 2 years

Several high-ranking NBA team executives told Yahoo! Sports they wouldn’t be surprised if the age limit in the new CBA is pushed to two years in college and 20 years old by the end of that calendar year. One NBA general manager says about two-thirds of teams are in favor of that change. The current CBA states that an American must be out of high school for at least one year and be 19 years old by the end of that calendar year before entering the draft.

I so hope this happens. Not for the idea of Rivers staying two years, but for all potential one and dones having to stay. Even better yet, I wish they would do this AND allow a player to go straight to the NBA again. If they have no interest in college, don't force it upon them. It may be a decision they letter regret, but it's their decision. Other kids choose to go after war right after high school. If you can go get shot at, you should be able to go pro.

I agree. Players with talent on the level of Kobe Bryant, Lebron James and Dwight Howard should be allowed to go straight to the NBA. While on one level, I see this possible change as good for college basketball, on another level I see this as potentially doubling the problem. Some players are going to play college ball for two years while not embracing the role of student athlete and attending class, working on their studies, earning an education, etc...

Going to college for 2 years is great! Because the level of College Hoops for men, has spiraled downward, due to the ONE and DONES. Austin will benefit from 2 years at Duke. And if he leaves after 2 years, he can work online or take classes to graduate. Mike Dunleavy did. He finished in Dec 2005 and marched in May 2006. (His name was in the program).

I don't think that Duke offers undergraduate degrees via online courses. I also thought that Duke limited the number of transfer credits a student could utilize in earning an undergraduate degree.

There is an MBA and there are some nursing programs, but I am not aware of any undergraduate courses that are offered online.

I could be wrong! There are certainly LOTS of PEOPLE who know much more about the Degree Programs at Duke than I do. Could someone, educate me? ;)

I DIDNT SAY DUKE had online classes. Just the fact, that Austin or anyone can do that, and graduate (from wherever)! If that is important to them.

But you cited Mike Dunleavy's finishing in 2005. And marching in 2006. From DUKE. So, I presumed, you were referring to Duke's Graduation Requirements. Not from where ever. If it is important to them, Austin or Anyone can do that and Graduate from anywhere.

It is important to have 2 years of college. For LOTS of things. Not just the NBA.

My guess is that the new CBA will exempt this years freshman class. I could very well be way off, but it'd be hard to force kids who could have gone right out of HS into 2 years of college when they enrolled under the old one year rule.

But I could be wrong.
