EarlJam

Someone, it seems, has gotten EarlJam's goat recently, and unfortunately, he has seen fit to take out his frustrations on the entire fairer sex. I, and I suppose many of you, initially assumed that his posts this morning were an April Fool's joke. However, as they pushed the envelope of taste and decency, I sent him a private message giving him the opportunity to acknowledge his ruse and indicate to the rest of the CTN community that it had only been a joke. Instead, EarlJam assured me that no, in fact his comments were serious, and responded with a string of filth and depravity I'll not deign to reproduce here. In light of his misogynistic comments, the inappropriate image in his new avatar, and his complete unwillingness to retract any of his incendiary statements, my fellow mods and I have had no choice this morning but to ban EarlJam from participation in CTN. We elected to take this action quickly, as we worried that his comments would only grow more inappropriate over the course of today and the near future.
Some of you will no doubt express skepticism as to the timing of this event (in light of today's date), but I must sadly assure you that this is no joke. EarlJam was unwilling to back down on his disgusting comments or to assure the CTN moderators that he would refrain from further such behavior, so he has left us no choice.
We have lost a beloved member of our community, and that is sad, but I think we also need to be aware of EarlJam's currently precarious state. Perhaps sometime in the future he will be able to rejoin our august group, but for now, I believe he needs our vibes. The EarlJam who woke up today, and who threatened to menace this group for the foreseeable future, is not the EarlJam I know and love. I post this message with a heavy, concerned heart.

Vibes are sent.
I am truly stunned that it is NOT an April Fools Joke....in fact I am still waiting for the APRIL FOOL punch line. I would be happy to have been 'had' in this instance.
if I may ask - is there a way to overide his avatar as in existing threads it is visible and it is most defnitely NOT safe for work.

I'm a little skeptical as EarlJam is still listed as a PWing School Assistant Professor.

Skeptical or not...that avatar popping up on my screen at WORK was most un-funny!!!

The banning function is rather confusing (I guess we never really had reason to find that out before), but I am trying to get it taken care of. My understanding is that EarlJam is at work right now, but I do not want him to be able to continue this stuff any further.

So he is sending this (complete with the avatar pic) from work?
that we will get our old EJ back. I really thought this was an April Fool's joke as well.
The avatar is unnerving here in the courthouse, too.

I have used the ignore feature so I can longer see any of EJs posts...that has solved my embarassing photo problem! I get a line that identifies the missing post as from EJ, and the option to click to view which I won't be clicking on for a while!

Unfortunately, I don't think there's an override function for avatars, so I think the ignore list is your best bet there.
EarlJam should now properly appear on the ban list.

I'm shocked and disappointed regarding EarlJam's rant.
Vibes that whatever is going on that led to this behavior is sorted out and EJ is back to his usual self.

EarlJam's avatar has now been deleted, so viewing the forum should be SFW.

Thank you Wilson!
If this is a ploy by EJ to add CTN as part of his quest to get banned by all the fan boards I will personally drive to his house and smack the living
out of him

I'd bet if you gave Tilly, Cathy, Windsor, LG and a few other fine ladies from CTN a small, rusty knife, they'd consider some other reduction surgery, too.

Wow, just wow. I didn't think it was possible to get banned from here. I understand why it was done, I just never thought I would see it happen.
As for the offending thread/posts, the software allows for them to be deleted right off the board so as to erase them completely.

Reduction? Never. Removal? Absolutely.

Oh EJ. I feel for ya! I'm glad you don't know where I live today, but I hope it gets better. Soon.

I learned how to do surgery this week. I could perform that reduction with a rusty nail.

Oh My God. I do one lousy quotation and spend the afternoon working on taxes and CTN looses a founding member to thecybernetherregions. I didn't even get to see the offending avatar or posts. I feel so deprived! Damn! Bring back Earljam!
BRING BACK EARLJAM!

The jig is up.
Any minute now, EarlJam's ban will lapse, and he will happily rejoin us.
This scheme was born yesterday, when EJ and I had one of our regular telephone chats. Having noticed my new reappointment as moderator, he asked me to ban him, as he wanted to be the first person in CTN history to be banned.
I, of course, happily agreed to do so, and then I remembered the calendar. So, I called him back, and this whole thing took on a life of its own. EarlJam, being the lovable, clever goofball that he is, carried his "offending" posts
thisclose to the line (and incidentally, if he in fact crossed the line with any of you, he is not solely to blame; he and I must shoulder the blame equally).
It seems only appropriate that an elaborate, mod-aided April Fools' joke help to kick off our birthday week, as it was in part a poorly-executed joke that got us all here in the first place. Sincerest apologies to anyone who experienced undue distress as a result of our tomfoolery.
To the rest of you...some of you seem to have regarded this with a skeptical eye all along, and your warranted questioning of this ruse merits congratulations. However, to those of you who have taken this prank hook, line, and sinker (you know who you are), I must only say...
GOTCHA!!!
Happy April Fools' Day, Happy CTN Week, and a genuine "We heart you" from EarlJam and me to the entire CTN community.
