For the last week the 'shift' key on the left side of my keyboard (the one under the cap lock key) has been acting up. It tends to stick about 80% of the time that I press it. For some reason, it only does it when I type so I guess I must be hitting it at a slight angle or something. If I just press on the key when not typing it never ever sticks. Is there anything I can do or use (a lubricant of some sort) to stop this from happening? I know I can just buy another one for very little money but this keyboard isn't all that old and, far more importantly, I am really finicky about the kind of keyboards that I like and it always takes me a while to find a new one that suits me so if there is something I can do to resolve this I'd like to try it before I buy another.

There may be some dust under the key that is causing it to stick. Try blowing some compressed air under it (the entire keyboard for that matter) to get the crud out. Just do it outside so the dust doesn't go everywhere inside your house.

If it's an older, full-sized keyboard (not a laptop keyboard), you may be able to (gently) pry the key up and clean around it. It should just pop back on.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that I have tried cleaning under it (it is a standard desktop keyboard, not a laptop keyboard). I didn't use compressed air, I just blew on it, so maybe compressed air is the way to go.

If that doesn't work I wonder if I can find my old keyboard on which several letters were rubbed off by extensive use? that might make for some interesting typing!
