Duke loses a legend.

I only met him twice, at Regulator, and I'll always cherish that.

I was too intimidated to take a class with him. I was afraid of what he might think of my writing.
I have only one regret about my entire Duke experience, and it is that I never took a class with Reynolds Price. I've tried to make up for that by reading everything he's ever written.

In the last few decades, the demand for his seminars was such that it was very difficult to get in, anyway. I think you pretty much had to be an English or Literature senior major, or grad student. And even then, there are only 15 seats in that sort of class.

I'm kind of old, and seats were available in Price's class when I was there. I was an English major. The opportunity was there for me, but I was too intimidated to do it.
