For those of you who do not venture over to DBR, it is being reported on the boards by Airowe that Kyrie Irving will not play in the next couple of games due to his big toe issue.

Too bad. Does 'Dre start at the 2 or do we have Seth or Tyler start at the point? I like any of those options.

I believe Dawkins will get the start as he has played so well so far this season. Tyler Thornton running the point alongside the starters is intriguing, but I doubt it happens. Bottom line, more minutes for Dawkins, Curry and Thornton with Irving sitting out. This is a good opportunity to see the other guys shine.

A dark cloud with a silver lining. This gives prince harry a chance now to maybe win a ROTW award...

Bad news but I'm not bothered for a couple reasons. The first is that we aren't playing anyone that I would expect to give us a tough game, the second is that it will be good to see how the team handles a major contributor's absence. We obviously have the depth to keep playing at a high level, but I'm curious to see how we adjust. I'll take it as another opportunity for this team to learn about themselves.

Hate this for Kyrie and hope it's nothing serious. Only good thing I can think of is extra minutes for some of our other guards, as has been mentioned.

I think this is actually good news for the team in the long run, IF it's nothing serious and just needs a week or two of rest. Kyrie can rest a little and get his toe 100% while the rest of the team figures out how to play without him. Yes, he could use a couple more games' experience before the ACC season gets going, but I think this is good for a few reasons:

1. The rest of the team can gel without him and learn to play without him. Think Boozer 2001. Like any freshman, he's gotten a few stupid fouls in his time, and the team needs to learn how to manage without him. This could be really good for later in the season if he gets in foul trouble at some point.
2. Dawkins and Curry will get some INVALUABLE minutes and experience.
3. We'll have a fresh and rested 100% Kyrie for the ACC season. While he's shown that he can handle the college game and its increased speed, I think he got a little tired from all the travel and playing those teams. A little rest might do him some good. It might even help him later in the season when a lot of players start to wear down from the grind.

That's probably a really good comparison, but I am happy that Kyrie's injury happened this early in the season, and it's not as major as Boozer's broken foot.

I agree - it's nice looking at the schedule and seeing that the games he's likely to miss are: Bradley, St Louis and potentially Elon. And all 3 of those are at home. With a 9 day break between St Louis and Elon and then 9 more between Elon and UNCG there should be plenty of time for rest before ACC play starts on 1/2.

Hell, Barnes might be able to get a rookie of the week award while Kyrie is out. But considering his outstanding shooting thus far (35%), I won't hold my breath.

Time for Seth to raise his game. Tyler, too. Somehow, I'm not too worried. I'm not too happy, but not too worried either with our backcourt depth. I'll bet we see some presses from our foes.

Yup. Hated hearing 'indefinitely'. But even if he misses all of December (likely), it's not the end of the world. While it'd be nice to have him back for Miami, it's not a necessity and after that game (1/2) we have UAB at home. Maryland on the 9th would be a good game to return for...
