On a guitar forum I am active on a bunch of us got pissed off with the actions of a particular mod and, as a result, a new board was created today. Why do I find these events so familiar?!?

UK Les Paul Forums.

It broke away from a site called MyLesPaul (after the famous guitar from Gibson) and, although it is mostly the British members who broke way, there are a bunch of Americans who joined us there as well. It only started earlier today so is still small but I expect it to grow as more people migrate over there.

Do you have a new board thread in which people are wondering how to refer to the old board?;)

Is one of the rules of the new board NOT to merge threads? ;)

No, but I swear I thought about starting one.

We don't really have any rules over there yet. It was only started yesterday and hasn't been properly set up yet. In fact, we are considering new software (I'm gonna PM CB&B about the software we use here) so things are likely to change significantly pretty soon.

We are, however, allowed to swear which is a Godsend since so many of us are British and we can't talk to each other without taking the piss.

You weren't allowed to swear on the old board? Did it call you a wanker if you did? How in the hell (uh, how in the world) did someone expect musicians not to swear?

Actually, we were allowed to swear and there was a 35 page thread in which the Brit contingent did so in about 80% of the posts. It is all part of British culture (anyone who has spent any time there will understand) as we were simply taking the piss out of each other rather mercilessly. They cracked down on the swearing but were very selective when doing so. We were being censored (swear words showing up as f**k and entire threads deleted) but others were still allowed to swear with impunity in other threads. Once we started the other forum and were sending PMs letting friends know about it we noticed that the PMs were being censored too. They had introduced a filter that removed parts of the URL for the new board and replaced the characters with *** as well. That was the final straw.

We've just chosen new software for the place and, upon my suggestion, we're going to use the same stuff we use here (thanks to CB&B for pointing us in the right direction)! I'll be a mod over there mostly for technical issues based upon my experience here. I absolutely guarantee that I will fuck things up so badly that, not only will I screw that site up beyond all recognition, but that I will also bring the whole of the interwebz crashing down too. Trust me, it will happen.
