Jesus_Hurley has a preview up on the front page.

My dad is out of town and offered me his tix to the game, but since it's later in the day on a Sunday I had to turn him down...arrrrgh! I'll still be watching at home on my computer though. I think it might be a better game than some folks are expecting..we'll need to play better D and watch our turnovers.

I would like to be in Section 13, or any other section in our favorite corner of the world, but instead I will be on the corner of my couch. At least in Section 21 I will be surrounded by friendly souls; my dogs are friendly, but Sasha doesn't have a grasp of Duke basketball yet, and Merlin gets nervous when I curse at the refs and hides upstairs.

At halftime, I didn't think we'd reach 80. By the end of the game I wasn't bummed out we didn't get 100. This was a good game. In fact, this was a great game to kick the season off. Congrats to Princeton for playing strong, we will remember you in April.

This could easily have been much worse than it was.
Princeton did make a good effort. They don't quite equal the talent of the Devils. There were some spectacular 3-pointers they hit, from very deep. But then, that really deep shot was all they could get, because of the extended defense.

Kyrie is really fast and has a nice better-than-expected jumper from beyond the arc. Kyle and Nolan were fine senior leaders, The MPs need to learn to board and play weak side D. Curry was slow to start but lit it up the 2nd half. Kelly was OK with a nice 3 but a couple silly plays. Dawkins has a better handle and a really sweet shot. Hairston and Thorton each had 2 points, both with steals about mid-court that they turned into layups.

I know that this won't happen, but if Kyrie were to uphold his 9:1 assist to turnover ratio for his career, he would go down as the greatest college point guard ever.
And we'll probably be in the Final Four every year he plays for Duke.
If you include the exhibition games, he's at 21-4, or 5.25:1. If he kept that up, he'd still be one of the greatest college point guards ever, and we'd STILL probably go to the Final Four every year he played for Duke.
Not getting ahead of myself or anything.

Agreed. All one of the years he's in a Duke uni.

Hey, he promised to stick around until we won a championship. I guess if we win one this year, I can't complain about him not keeping his promise, even though it would make me sad to lose him so soon.

I don't know how many teams are going to be able to play with Duke. There might be 10 teams in the country that can handle all the things that they throw at you. So, good luck to those guys, because Duke's pretty good.

I remember that promise and I'm gonna hold him to it.

There is a laundry list of items to be happy about in the first game of the season and Andre Dawkins' obvious improvement on defense is a key one. He seemed to be in better position defensively and moving with his man much better than last season. I believe Dawkins will see significant minutes if his defense remains strong.

Dawkins' defense was so much better then last year. I'm sure it helps having to guard Kyle in practice. I also loved seeing him be aggressive on the offensive side of the ball - he had several nice drives that last year probably would have just been a long jumper.

I saw lots of positives last night too - and the few negatives I did see I'm not sure I can even label 'negatives' during the first game of the season. If we're still doing some of it in late January...that's a problem. There was some 'sloppy' and some lack of communicaiton and a few cases of 'over eager'...all things I expect during the first few games of the year.
I think Curry is going to shoot a few daggers into opponents hearts with his range...and Kyrie is going leave people shaking their heads wondering what the f#$% just happened. I actual think - just this once - K is going to regularly go deep into his bench.
It is going to be a fun year
