In your opinion, what is worse for your heart? (Choose TWO!)

What puts your heart health at the greatest risk? YOU MAY CHOOSE TWO!
There are other options, such as NOT exercising. But I'm trying to limit it to things you DO, not things you DON'T DO.

I'm a nonsmoker, so I didn't enter option 2.
Wonder what the resident cardiologist has to say.

Like Lavabe, I didn't put 2 because I don't smoke, though I think that would be a big factor in heart problems.
Who your parents are has a lot of bearing on you heart health, too. My doc told me when he put me on BP meds that I should thank my loans and my parents. At the time I had no loans. Thanks Mom!

What's the deal with almonds? I hear they are very good for you but in just one serving, you get 24% of your daily fat. Is this good fat? Heart healthy fat? You see, I, EarlJam, love almonds and am hoping I don't have to discard them.....cause I eat a lot of 'em.

Yeah, almonds are the good fat.
I'm a non smoker, and I chose only option 2 as being bad (the worst) for your heart. The other choices probably won't kill you. Smoking probably will. And it WILL make you stink.

Except that category was EVERYDAY stress, not EPIC stress.

Almonds get me through my day. They're also high protein/high fiber, which is very important for reducing triglycerides. But as I said, I'll defer to whatever Borat the Cardiologist says. He really knows this material. ;)

And BimbHos too.
Sorry... I just wanted to say BimbHo.
It's definitely the best word you've ever created.

It better not be drinking in moderation, cuz then I'm screwed ... actually I keep seeing studies that show that moderate consumption of alcohol is beneficial. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Alcohol is a preservative, isn't it?

Red wine is supposed to be good for the heart, in moderation.

The major risk factors for cardiovascular diseases are smoking, diabetes, lipid disorders and family history. Other obvious risk factors include obesity, hypertension and psycho-social stresses. Many of the first six listed commonly occur in the same individual, unfortunately. I commonly see only 1 risk factor present when someone comes in to see me with an acute or chronic cardiac event/condition. Drinking in moderation, defined as 1-4 drinks/day is generally thought to be cardio-protective. I suggest my patients limit their alcohol intake to 1 or 2 drinks/day and I certainly clarify to them that a drink is NOT a fifth of Jack Daniels (or Bacardi, etc) and a splash of Coke
. Most of my patients don't need the extra calories anyway. You start getting more non-cardiac end organ damage (brain, liver, GI) in addition to a possible alcohol-related cardiomyopathy (congestive heart failure) with larger amounts of alcohol consumption, both acute and chronic.
Hope that helps.
This is post #8999. I must go have a
single beer now and make that post #9000 and place it on the Ymm, Beer thread.

Does a can of Bud Light count as a drink?
;)
