Bob Seger - Old Time Rock n' Roll

Okay, so I'm drving to Mr. Wiggle's Funhouse on Johnson Ferry Road the other night when Bob Seger's "Old Time Rock n' Roll" comes on the radio. I like Bob Seger, but loathe this song.

But a thought occured to me. In the lyrics, Bob sings, "...Today's music ain't got the same soul..." Here, he is clearly suggesting that the new music at the time he wrote the song was not so much to his liking. Yet, in reality, the song "Old Time Rock n' Roll" was a new song of that time, i.e., it was "today's music."

So is he saying he dislikes his own song, "Old Time Rock n' Roll?" If he is, then I, EarlJam, agree with him.

No, he is merely referring to the rest of mainstream music at the time he wrote that song. Much the same as Alan Jackson and George Strait commenting on the state of country music, but not their own contributions to the genre, in Murder on Music Row.

For the record, I love Seger but am not particularly enamored with that song either. I guess it is just overplayed, much like You Shook Me All Night Long - I love AC/DC but simply cannot listen to that song.

Well, the song still sucks.
