They seem like pretty normal, desirable numbers, yet, I can't think of Duke players that have worn them.

6 - ?
7 - ? (seems this would be a popular number)
8 - ?
9 - ?

What gives?

Aren't they illegal numbers in college basketball?

Seriously? Why?

How can a jersey number be "illegal?"

The digits 6-9 aren't used in college basketball. Yet.

Way back when I played high school basketball, they told us referees might have to call fouls on people with one hand and hold the basketball with the other, and unless they had extra digits, they could only signal up to five with one hand. We couldn't have 1 and 2 because they would have to signal one shot or two shots, and I guess the refs weren't considered to be smart enough to separate the offender's number and the number of foul shots. (This was before the three-point shot, which since the Lady Patriots of PCS couldn't throw it in the ocean, it was probably just as well.)
