Experiences with the Supernatural...

They did a paranormal cakes show on Challenge the other night, where people told their personally paranormal story through cakes. I was just wondering if anyone here had had a supernatural experience in their lives. True stories only, please.

The only one that I could think of was that the day my mother passed, the lights in our house kept turning on and off in weird ways. For example, my wife checked our bedroom fan light three times before she left that day, and the light was on each time, even though she KNEW it was off when she left he room, and the kids were all downstairs putting on their shoes.

Some very weird things happened after Mom passed, too. Mom had always fought against selling our California house, but then, the minute she passed, someone bought the house next door, two brothers in construction. They told their realtor, who is a friend of my aunt's, that they had commented that they wished they could get a house nearby for the other brother. Within a few days, they'd presented my aunt with a very good offer in today's market, and they gave her EVERYTHING she wanted in the offer, including allowing her to rent back for two months for $1 (houses in this area rent for $40K a MONTH during the summer), which she hadn't even asked for. Dad said it was like she was releasing the house upon her death. You have to understand, my aunt is a COMPLETE OCD neat freak, and the idea of strangers tromping through her house while it was on the market COMPLETELY freaked her out. Having a buyer just fall in her lap is like a dream come true, and the fact that it would happen within a week of my mother's passing is just weird. The house next door had belonged to a friend of the family who had passed a couple years before, and two or three times, contracts had been offered and then fallen through for one reason or another. The fact that it had to wait until my mom passed and our house was available for two brothers to buy BOTH houses, my dad says, is Jou-Jou pulling strings from up above. Not supernatural, I must admit, but an awfully strange confluence of events, you must admit.

It's never happened to me. Yet.

Nothing has ever happened to me, but my father went to his grave believing he had seen a UFO. The three of us were going back home very late after my uncle's funeral. (I was asleep in the back seat). Dad said they were on Rt. 58 in somewhere west of Suffolk, VA, and there was no traffic. He looked up in the rear view mirror, and he saw lights following him. The lights were high, as if it were on the cab of a truck, but there was no vehicle behind him. The lights followed him for several miles, until a car came in the other direction, and the lights disappeared.

Also, one of Dad's friends owned an antebellum house on the Elizabeth River in Portsmouth, VA, way off the road. We were over for a cookout once and he showed us a calendar with check marks in various places. He said the check marks delineated nights when there was a knock at his door, but when he went to the door, there was no one there. There were no houses around his, and no way to get away from his door without being seen.

So yeah, I believe.

When I was in college, my friends lived in an old house in Adams Morgan (D.C.). They had told us it was haunted, but everyone says that about their old house. One day we were playing video games and heard someone come clomping down the wooden staircase in boots. I was sitting on the couch right next to the landing, and looked to see who it was. Nobody ever came through the door, nobody was actually upstairs. Those footsteps were loud enough that everyone (about 6 of us) heard and noticed that nobody owned them. It was awesome. My two friends who lived there looked at us and simply replied "told ya so".
I also lived for a short time in an older home in Pa. that was way haunted. Random noises at all times of night and day, plus twice we visibly saw orbs that entered our bedroom. Our dog would go nuts barking at things we couldn't see.

My sister and I both had experiences immediately follow our dad's death that left us sensing his presence.

I also shared with bjornolf in some PMs over yonder a few years ago.... primarily two types, pre-cognition regarding events before they take place and also (not sure what the official name is) what feels like flashbacks to other lives . These flashbacks have occurred related to the Holocaust, certain places (Paris, New Orleans) and more rarely related to individual people.

My experiences with pre-cognition and flashbacks have occurred without warning and often occur in a series for a period of time, followed by periods of time with no such activity ...... can't use pre-cognition in Vegas! I have no control over the phenomena! I rarely tell others about these experiences because those who've never had them sometimes become aggravating in their doubting. If you have such experiences, it's something you just know.

You all will think this is crazy, but I see my dad in my dreams and we talk with each other. At first I didn't mention these dreams to my mom because I thought that it might make her sad, or it might make her think that I'm really crazy. However, one dream was so vivid that I had to mention it to my mom. I said to Dad, "We buried you. How did you get here?" He told me that he was fully healed and that he wasn't in pain any more. Mom told me that Dad had come to to her THAT SAME NIGHT and had told her that he wasn't sick any more and that she needed to stop worrying about him. She said to him in the dream, "Don't sit on the couch because you'll get dirt on it."

When my dad appears in my dreams, it's very comforting.

I used to have lots of dreams - premonition type dreams. It was pretty spooky.

Do you remember what time of year it was? My dad was the USAF UFO investigator for the tri-state area of North Dakota, South Dakota, and Minnesota. He got to drive to people's houses and interview them if they gave a credible UFO report to the local authorities. Many were caused by what is called a "temperature inversion." If there is a layer of warm air trapped between two layers of cold air near the ground, you can get a mirror effect. People will swear they're seeing a UFO, when they're really seeing a traffic light from up to 10 miles away. If there WAS a semi a few miles behind your dad and the mirror effect happened, he could have been seeing the cab's lights from REALLY far away. The car coming the other way would have washed out the mirror effect, and by the time the car had passed beyond the horizon (his headlights would continue to wash it out until he went pretty far behind your dad) and your dad's eyes had recovered from the night blindness created by his headlights, the truck could have turned, or stopped, or closed or increased distance so that the mirror wasn't reflecting right into his field of vision anymore. Not saying he DIDN'T see a UFO, just offering one possible explanation. :D

I forgot about that. Yea, when I was a kid, there were a few times that I predicted things that happened, including the death of a neighbor's dogs and precognitive dreams of the deaths of family members. Those times kind of creeped me out.

I've never had an experience myself, but many in my family have. My dad grew up in this ancient old house in Salem, MA. It backed up right to a 200+ year old cemetery. Many in my family reported that the house was haunted, in particular the third floor attic/bedroom. My mom and dad both report seeing in the middle of the night a woman in vintage dress appear and sit on the foot of the bed. Some in my family would be the type to blow smoke about something like this, but my mom isn't one of them.

My parents had finch feeders in the backyard. Mom loved it when the gold finches came. We hadn't had any gold finches all spring - the afternoon she died, 2 came to the feeders. I know Mom sent them - one for her and one for her best friend, Betty. Anytime I see a gold finch, I know it is Mom coming to let me know she is watching.

I told a friend on Thursday that Mom was going to die on Tuesday, which she did. When she started feeling ill, she kept telling us she was sick just like Betty. She was diagnosed with lung cancer - Betty had a different type of cancer. We kept telling her that she wasn't sick like Betty but when Marcus, her oncologist, told us in March that he couldn't, in good conscience, recommend any additional treatments, we all started thinking about this. She died May 3 - exactly a year after Betty. (The 2 gold finches were probably coming to see if they could get some additional funds for the shopping they were doing.)

I'm sure I've written about it before elsewhere, but I've firsthand experienced it. When it happens to you, there's no doubt you know exactly what it is and to have it later confirmed by facts that reinforce it...

My father died while I was en route to the hospital after getting some rest at home following having been there all day with him. I knew where and when it happened as I drove along. A very cold sensational wave all along the front of my body was first felt. This was followed by a smaller concentrated spot, about half the diameter of my sternum, that shot through my chest center and exited the same size spot on my back. A feeling that I can't describe made me understand that was it. It was his spirit that had passed through.
When I got to the hospital,he was gone. The time of death was a time that matched the time of the...whatever you call it. It has not happened since. I suppose it to mean he has completed his cross over to existence in paradise.

All this talk of food is making me hungry.
