Ryan Kelly gaining strength, confidence

Kelly, the former Ravenscroft standout, started last season at about 210 pounds and played sparingly as a freshman forward during Duke's run to the 2010 NCAA title. A rigorous workout program and high-volume diet have increased his weight, and he now carries 234 pounds on his 6-foot-10 frame.

While banging against Duke teammate Mason Plumlee in a game Tuesday at the North Carolina Pro-Am, Kelly made it obvious that he is a different player.

"I definitely feel a lot more comfortable out there," he said. "Not being bumped around. Taking contact. Rebounding the ball. I think that's going to translate as the season begins."
This is good to hear. Kelly should see all the time he can handle so he needed to add some weight.

He looks huge compared to last year. The photos from the Pro-Am were surprising.

I'm happy to see him bulking up - I don't think he would ever have made a great SF, but with his range and some weight he should make a really good PF. I find it amusing that his weight last year is about what Henson will come in at this year. And the two of them should be playing each other when we face off :D

You mentioned henson in a subsequent post. I'd love to see RK level him on screens and muscle his skinny ass outta the way for a buncha boards and put-backs this year.
