Employment

I say this with complete and absolute humility. I share this more with a tired but relieved heart.
I am, after one year of unemployment and at times, pure Hell, employeed again.
I know this could all change tomorrow, but for now, it's such a relief, and I shall take the next few days off to enjoy it. And my unemployement has, I hope, taught me so much. If anyone EVER hands me a resume again, telling me how they are looking for work, I want to bust my ass to help them. I WILL bust my ass to help them. And again, I know that nothing should be taken for granted. I could end up unemployed again in a heartbeat. But I do know I will do all I can to keep that from happening.
Thank you. THANKS to ALL of you for helping me through this last year. I love youz guyz one and all. And if someone is out there looking for work, send me your info. Tell me what you are looking for. I promise to help.
Best,
-EarlJam

Community Relations Director, Barnes & Noble.
Not to be dramatic, but hey, God sort of wired me that way (I'm cool with it), I've been keeping a journal this year. In May, I "sketched" a cartoon that I think accurately captured my feelings. The end of unemployment benefits was coming and I was scared shitless. The cartoon was of a road, leading to the gallows. I named the road, "May." I named the steps "June." I named the rope "July." Today, with the official announcement of getting the job, I have one week of unemployment pay left. One week. I have applied for more than 250 jobs. This meant research, cover letters and on 17 occassions, an initial interview.
The entire process can be summed up as follows:
"No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No thanks. No. No. No. No thank you. Nope. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. Sorry. No. Nope. No. No. Uh-uh. No. Hmmm, no. No. No. No. No. No. No. "I need the rent," No. No. No. No. Overqualified. No. No. No. No. Underqualified. No. No. No. "You didn't pass the fourth round matrix on-line examination, sorry." No. No. No. No. YES.
Again, consider me incredibly humbled.

My amateurish but heartfelt cartoon sketch from May. I had just been told "No" about two jobs and felt like I was staring homelessness in the face. I was scared shitless. Sorry to be so reflective. Again, I know I could be right back to unemployment tomorrow. I am humble, and really, really, REALLY want to help anyone else who may be looking. I can empathize deeply. I may be a little more than mildly insane, but that's cool.
