Okay, if I ask you, "Do you like eggs," what do you think about? Chicken eggs, of course. But why? When did chicken eggs become the "norm" for "eggs" in the culinary world? What if I asked you, "Do you like eggs," and you said yes, then I proceeded to serve you a big bowl of roe, or fish eggs; or better yet, I bring to you a heaping portion of turtle eggs?

Eggs.

There are so many types of eggs. On the surface, the thought of consuming any eggs is actually kind of gross, though I do enjoy the chicken variety of them (with ketchup and hot sauce and pepper), of course.

Nonetheless, for the most part, when people ask, "Would you like some eggs," most of us think of the white and yellow variety that comes in the carton in the dairy aisle of the store. Next time you eat or order or get asked about eggs, please be sure to clarify. If someone asks you, "Would you like some eggs," please respond, "of what species?"

In some small measure, I think this will make the chickens of the world feel a littlle less targeted and paranoid.
