Because I know you are all so interested
North Durham Little Legue All-Stars defeated the Roxboro All-Stars last night by a score of 16 - 2. NDLL started slow, falling behind 2 - 0 on a series of errors in the first inning. By the 4th inning we led 4 - 2. Then we found our bats and the wheels fell off the bus for Roxboro. We scored 4 more runs in the 5th and 8 runs in the 6th to cruise to victory. We play West Fayetteville tonight at 7:00
Dan Murray went 1 for 3 from the plate with a ground out (that produced an rbi) a strike out, and a single. After his single he stole second, and then scored on a fly to center. He also had a walk.

I didn't realize you had a son young enough for Little League yet. I thought they were middle and high school ages. Congrats to Dan.

Max will be 13 in August. His league is, I think 11 to 13 years. In Kenansville, Duplin Co., they don't have enough children to brake up the teams like it should be done. There are less than 10,000 in the school system. Max is somewhat tall for his age. He's 5"11 and wears a 11 1/2 shoe.
I do hope Dan's team won tonight.

North Durham 13 - West Fayetteville 3.
Durham is on a roll. We play tonight in the semi-finals against Wilmington Little League. Dan was 1 for 2 at the plate last night (ground out, single, walk). He made two errors at first base (after an errorless regular season
) but by then we were way ahead and it was inconsequential. He'll regain his defensive focus tonight.

12 is the "classic" age for Little League (the one people are familiar with because that is the one that gets shown on ESPN when they go to Williamsport - in Little League parlance it is called "Majors"). At 13 they move into what is called "Juniors" Division, which uses longer bases and a pitchers mound set further out (the same as middle and high school rules). In Juniors division the age groups often encompasss 2 or even 3 years - Juniors tends to mimic middle school agees and "Seniors" high school ages"
In many leagues there is a huge drop off after age 12 in favor of travel ball. Especially for the more skilled kids.
Dan is 11 - he plays in what is called "minors" during the regular season, though in state tournament play they refer to them by age brackets.

Thanks for the info. Max was on his middle school team this past school year. He is supposed to be on a travel team next year. He will have to go to Wilmington, 50 miles from home to do this.
I do hope Dan's team continues to do well.

North Durham Little League 7, Wilmington Little League 5. Wilmington gave us a bit of a scare last night - we were up 7 - 1 after three innings, and they crept back.
We play Saturday at noon for the district championship.
If we win Saturday we move on to the state championship tournament in Waynesville NC.
