NCAA Conference Movements...

I'd love to get you guys' thoughts on all the moves going on. They're saying the Big East and the Big XII are gonna get nailed. They're also saying that the SEC might go after Miami, Florida St., Georgia Tech, and Clemson, and that Maryland might go to the Big 10...16. So, what do you guys think of these moves, and what should the ACC do to counter?
Everybody's looking toward football. I personally think the ACC should become the biggest, scariest basketball conference in history. Since the Big XII and Big East are falling apart, and the SEC is going after football schools, I say the ACC should go after Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, WVU, and Georgetown. Can you imagine a conference in basketball with Duke, UNC, Wake Forest, Kentucky, Kansas, WVU, Georgetown, and Louisville? They'd win the national championship almost every year!
I love the ACC, and I'd love to see it stay the same, but the times, they are a changin', and if we don't change with them, we're gonna get picked apart by the vultures in the Big 10 and the SEC.
Just a thought. What do you guys (and gals) think?

The ACC Championship would be the National Championship. All other tournaments would be superfluous. That level of in-season competition would be great for fans, and brutal for the teams.

Dear SEC,
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE take Miami, FlaSt, GTech, and BC. And while you're at it, we'll toss in VaTech. They all play football, both on the football field and on the basketball court.
Please do NOT take Clemson, as that would surely end all hope of seeing a certain Clemson supporter streaking down Chapel Hill's streets after Clemson breaks its loss streak at the Holes.
Thank you,
Lavabe

I was listening to 610 AM last week and they mentioned that UNC runs the most profitable basketball program in America. They also mentioned that Texas makes about the same amount of money in two home games as UNC does the entire season.
I'm worried about college basketball. These conference mergers cannot be good for basketball.

I echo your concerns. Somehow, when money is the deciding factor, the outcomes seem to be rather empty and devoid of substance.

I agree with both your sentiments, and it irritates me to hear all this nonsense about compatibility with institutions of high academic standing and the like. If Texas would have made more money by playing in the Texas Prison League, that's exactly where it would have gone.
I'm only singling out Texas because of its apparent flip-flop on the Big XII (Big X?)/PAC-10/11/12. The other schools who have announced a move are in the same camp. You can't tell me that Nebraska has more in common with Northwestern than it does with Oklahoma, or Colorado and Washington State are more compatible than Colorado and its neighbor to the east, Kansas. It's all about money, and a lot of student-athletes and programs are going to be hurt.

I can't imagine where Kansas ends up, and if it's with the wrong conference, I expect their basketball program would erode away into obscurity. If I were Bill Self, I'd be calling Cleveland to see if they're hiring.

Every time I see the title of this thread, I wonder if the NCAA has to go potty.

Apparently, that's what everyone in Big 12 country has been thinking too.
