Do you crush your Ramen?

Post by Miles » May 12th, 2010, 6:53 pm

While we were camping this weekend, I noticed that one of my buddies served up a heaping bowl of Ramen without breaking the noodles up. I always broke them up because I enjoyed eating the soup with a spoon and thought cutting up the noodles was kind of lame. It made sense to serve them up as whole noodles while camping, because most of the utensils we had were forks or sporks so you couldn't get the full benefits of using a spoon. What do you do?

I do! I smush the bag until the noodles are in a few solid chunks, and then cook them. I don't pulverize them, just break them up.

Sweet! That's exactly what I'm talking about. Just get the lil bastards small enough to fit into my spoon!

Oh SNAP! Great post, poll!

I buy the Ramen in a cup (microwavable).

Even if I were as rich financially as Trump, I'd still eat the stuff every now and then. Love it. The hot and spicy chicken.

After heating, I spend three minutes with a knife cutting up the noodles so that I can eat it with a spoon.

No - but then I learned to eat the noodles with chopsticks and to drink the broth.

I've never eaten Ramen. Sounds like I might be missing something. I'll give it a try one day.

I couldn't remember the last time I had Ramen before our camping trip. Once I did I fell in love with it all over again. I probably won't be buying any soon, but I did enjoy it every night. It's the perfect food for backpacking: light weight, ready to eat in less than 10 minutes, loaded with carbs and the packaging is mess-free and easy to store for your return hike.

I had it just last week..sometimes when there is nothing to eat, there is always a pack of ramen hidden behind something.

Why would you break up the noodles? If they were supposed to be eaten like that, they would come that way. Do you cut your spaghetti with a knife too?

I break before I boil it. At least in half, sometimes in thirds.

I do. Seriously. I know the proper thing to do is to use a fork and spoon, but a knife is just so much more convenient; and for slobs like me, it helps keep sauce off the shirt.

I break up the noodles because I want them to fit into a spoon with some of the "broth".

Why in the hell would I cut up spaghetti? :-)

Would crushed ramen work well as a garnish for salad? :-\

You crush it for reasons already discussed in this thread. I do it because I want the noodles and some broth in my spoon at the same time. It's also a pain in the ass to eat in it's packaged state unless you have chopsticks or a fork.

It's cheap as hell food that is loaded with about 50% of your recommended daily salt intake. :-B
