I mean, is it ONLY supposed to be for the regular season, or a full season accomplishment? After Gary won his COY and Vasquez his POY, they both fell flat on their faces. I think they should AT LEAST wait until the ACCT is over. A coach of a team that was WAY down and did a great job during the regular season could still win, but a team that was supposed to be around the middle, overachieved a little, and then TOTALLY fell apart wouldn't be overly rewarded. Plus, I'm sure there's some tendency after that sort of accomplishment to sit back on your laurels a little. Waiting until AFTER the ACCT would help prevent that. Just a thought.

You make a good point.

The way this year has ended, Duke earned the best honor of all. These other honors which are voted on, not earned by actual play in a game, sort of fall by the wayside now.

My understanding of it is those awards are for the regular season. The ACCT has it's own awards (as does the NCAAT) that are supposed to reward the players for their accomplishments in the tourney - but none for the coach...

Now to take that a step further - at least in the ACCT, why do they vote on the MVP before the last game is over?

I wouldn't trade a national champeenship for the ACC POY award, at any time.

I wouldn't either, and I wasn't even necessarily saying that I thought K should get it. I was just thinking that with their talent (or lack thereof) and the way they played in both the regular season AND ACCT, maybe some of the coaches that went deeper in the ACCT might have deserved it more.

This is an interesting discussion. I can't argue with grievious (sic) getting the POY award as his stats were a bit better than Jon's but it mighta been different if they had voted AFTER the ACCT. Jon's just as happy, or happier I'd bet, with the ACCT trophy/banner for the team. Same with K, I'd guess with the ACCT/COY and the NCAA champeenship and national COY. Hell, he'd prolly have to go 16-0 in the ACC regular season and have an average winning margin of 20+ points to get ACC-COY. Even then, the peckerhead ACC sportswriters would probably give it to some thug like greenturd or hackett for having a winning record in an unbalanced schedule. It's all about the team/family for K and his players. One of my favorite K quotes of all time is (paraphrased): "be a part of something bigger/better than you could ever accomplish on your own."

All sports do this. Back in 1995, Chipper Jones was shafted out of the National League Rookie of the Year award by Hideo flippin' Nomo. Immediately thereafter, Nomo's Dodgers were swept out of the postseason by the Reds, who were then swept in the NLCS by the Braves. Chipper served as a key cog in the Braves' World Series title run that season, batting .364 during the playoffs.

Of course, is the ACCT part of the post season? How many sports have a double post season? I personally think that the conference tournaments should count as part of it. They are conference only, after all. I mean, if they have to play a game in the MLB to decide who gets in, does that count as the first game of the playoffs, or last game of the regular season?
