A Wonderful Saturday in Atlanta

Saturday in Atlanta.

Braves game! Gonna take MARTA. Buying tickets for MARTA (mass transit) can be a hassle. As I finished making my purchase, a man next to me (with two other people) asked for my help in getting the passes. I helped him. We continue to talk. Down by the trains, I ask him about his Colorado Rockies hat, and colors.

"Pulling for the Rockies eh?"

"Yeah, I used to live out there when playing ball."

"Oh. You played ball there? College? Pro?"

"I used to play for N.C. State."

"Oh really? What's your name?"

"David Thompson."

(thinking)..."Holy Shit!" I should have recognized you!

Continued conversation and coolness. He was really down to earth and cool.

Then, get to the game and see, for the first time live in my life, a no-hitter. Yes, my team the Braves lost, but it was still really, really cool seeing a no-hitter.

But the best part of it all was being with FordGrl00 (Shelly) the entire time. She is, quite matter of factly, fantastic.

The lights made the photo fuzzy, but here we are with King David.

Looking into my crystal ball, I see either 1) Anna Kournikova, 2) Christian Laettner or 3) Ron Jeremy!

I wonder if DT appreciated NOT being recognized. You'd think that some celebrities must enjoy that.

I think he did, and when I asked what his name was, he was the exact opposite of egotistical.

"I played ball at N.C. State."

Instead of...

"I'm David frickin' Thompson man!"

We were blown away by how nice and down to earth he seemed to be.

Okay... in Atlanta, I at least had a shot of brushing up with greatness. EXCELLENT work, EJam!  Thanks for sharing the experience.

With my luck, my brush with greatness would probably be running into a moderator or three from the DBR. :Boo:

That wouldn't be a brush with greatness.

It was a great weekend!! Too bad the wrong team had the no-hitter :( I'll blame it on the wind.

I must admit I did not know who David Thompson was but I have been schooled (sp) and am very aware now. Dan was like a kid in a candy store but he hid it well B-)
