I'm talkin about the main one you keep; the one with the house and car keys on it.

Of these, how many do your really use? Shelly (FordGirl) has accurately pointed out to me that I may have too many keys. "Here are your 'millions of keys' Dan." She's right, and today I am doing some Spring "key" Cleaning.

But it got me to thinking, I wonder if other CTNers suffer from this same key fetish/affliction???

Oh, and by the way, of my 17 keys, I actually use about six of them.

-Mom's house
-my car
-my office
-Katie's place (you know, so I can have the tiddlywinks set up when she gets home from work)

So 4. I bet that's comparatively few.

My keychain is in my work van now, but I probably have about as many as EJ...and that's just this key chain. I've got two more at home hanging up that are full of keys. I have no idea what most of my keys actually open, but I don't want to do any "key cleaning" because I just know two weeks from now I'll be standing in front of some locked door thinking "Oh yeah...dammit, EarlJam!"

My key chain includes -
My Car
My house - front door and side door
My mother's house
the Dog Training Club
My best friends house

That is all.

oh...and about a dozen of those keyfob member card things with barcode on them for discounts...most of which pertain to dog supplies/books/electronics

I do have a drawer that has a box that has about 50 keys in it. I do not know where they come from or what they open. I save them anyway. I don't kow why.

My ex always called my key collection "the keys to the past".

I have 5 keys on my personal key ring:

2 to my front door
1 car key
1 key to my parent's front door
1 key to K68's old apartment

My work key chain has 5 keys also:

1 to my office
2 to drawers/cabinets in my office
2 to the PO Box, though only need 1. Kept the other on so I don't lose it.

I don't like having keys on a key chain that I'm not using, and will throw away keys that don't seem to have any function whatsoever. I've kept K68's old apartment key on my key ring as it's a Duke key.

I have 2 key rings, each with 2 keys on it. My car and house key, my wife's car and house key, so really only 3 different keys on the two rings. Both vehicles have only one key (no separate "trunk key"). Working from home eliminates the need for an office key. When I go to visit either my daughter/SIL/granddaughter or my folks, I add their house key to the appropriate key ring. If I forget to add that key before I leave home, then I'll get another copy made when I get there if I absolutely have to have that key during my visit. I hate having the extra bulk of superfluous keys in my pocket.

So yeah, and what he has neglected to share is that somehow with all these keys he still manages to lose them and be locked out of his place Too bad he did not lose his car keys while he was here and end up stuck in NC longer.

I have 3 keys: car key, house key, family members house key. I will say, I also still manage to "misplace" my keys too.

I have 3 keys: car key, house key, family members house key. I will say, I also still manage to "misplace" my keys too.

True story. Though I didn't "lose" my keys. That one just popped off the key chain. Please do not mention me losing my wallet and cell phone while I was up there too! Good Lord. I need a fanny pack.

I have 4 keys:

My house
Mom's house
Office
's house

My car doesn't have a key. It has a fob with buttons on it.

And like Windsor, I have about 35 of those bar code cards on my key ring to every grocery store, office supply store and bookstore in North Carolina and California.

- and my new VIC, my new Wegmans, my MVP, my girl's Dick's card (Yes, i'm a supporter ;-), it's for her son!), and my borders bar code cards!

A total of 14 keys... Mustang, you hit a nail here
...
1. my deadbolt
2. my handknob lock (that key saved my ass this weekend, I didn't have enough tumblers to change that lock)
3. no clue (possibly my old condo lock)
4. my old office
5. looks like a file cabinet key
6. no clue (looks like parents house)
7. a CD lock box key (where is that CD lock box)
8. no clue (looks like parents house)
9. I think this is old key to house before I changed the locks before X decided she didn't want to be married. Maybe backdoor!
10. again, NO CLUE
11. another disc lock box, I wish I knew where it was
12. office file cabinet (I no longer have)

14. my 1992 camry that my beloved suggested giving to Kidney foundation which I will be doing soon.

Does a bottle opener count? There are about five real keys, a few barcode thingees and a bottle opener (Kona Long Board). The Fat Tire opener is on my consul in my car.

All I've got is a house key and the key fob to the car. A Duke keychain. A Mickey Mouse key chain with the letter "D" my sister gave me when I was a kid. A LEGO stormtrooper keychain. And a bunch of those member club cards.

1 key fob for whatever car I am driving that day. I have several house/office keys in a small leather key case that I stick in my back pocket on business/work days.
