Can I get some vibes for my wife, please?

Oh, what a horrible day yesterday. Against doctor's orders after my foot surgery, I took my middle child to a Chuck E. Cheese party. About halfway through, my wife brought my daughter, little Katie, and dropped her off so she could take our oldest to a skate party. We had a great time at the mouse place, but my foot started hurting near the end. No biggie. I took the kids home and put them down for their naps and went to put my foot up and watch the Duke game. I was TiVoing it, so I put the kids down at 2:00. As I put my daughter in bed, my cell phone rang with my wife's ringtone. Cool, she and Sean must be on their way home. Since I was in the middle of getting Katie ready, I almost didn't answer. I'm glad I did.

My wife was crying on the other end. Turns out she and Sean had gone for one last skate around the rink before leaving. Sean was supposed to just watch from the side, but he tried to follow her after she'd started. He fell. She tried to reach back and catch him. Now, my wife is a fine skater, as long as she's going forward and taking normal turns. She used to be better at it, but she's put on a couple pounds over the years and her knees aren't what they used to be, so she only skates once every couple years, at these parties. Hence, she's WAY out of practice. Long story short (TOO LATE), she fell backwards. She tried to put her hands back to catch herself. She hurt both her hands and her hip. She's also sore all over, kind of like from an auto wreck. She actually blacked out once. So, I got the kids up and took them to their friends' house. She insisted on driving since my foot was in bad shape (she hadn't told me about the black out at that point, or exactly how much her right hand was hurting...too much to drive the stick shift she was driving, me thinks). Anyway, I insisted on at least meeting her half way (it's about an hour drive). So, I brought the dad of my kid's friends, and we got her. Paul, the dad, took Sean to his house in the stick shift, and I took Erica to the ER. She started shaking on the way, and her hand started hurting more and more (it wasn't very swollen, but she'd had ice on it since the accident, and the pinky was sticking out at an odd angle).

Luckily, the ER was pretty empty at 3:00 on a Saturday afternoon, and it only took us 2 hours there, compared to the 8 my son and I spent waiting when he had a bleeding head wound that required six staples. Anyway, turns out she broke her fifth meta carpal on her right hand, and sprained her left wrist pretty badly. They're not sure she doesn't have a tiny break in the left wrist. Apparently there's a spot in the wrist you can break with a hairline fracture that's almost impossible to find with a normal x-ray. So, she can't do anything between the giant brace on the wrist and the cast on her right hand. I even have to help her in the bathroom, which I don't mind at all but humiliates the hell out of her. And don't forget, she types ALL day for a living! She is really down right now. She can't pick up her daughter, she can barely feed herself. And I'm not 100% with this damn toe.

It's funny, because of the heavy snows, this party has been put off since early January. If this had happened then, she'd be healed by now. If the party were even last weekend, I could have canceled my surgery. Talk about Murphy's Law, right?

The other funny part is that right before they went on this fateful last lap, my son said to mommy innocently, "Mommy, why don't we wear the protective gear at the skating rink that we wear skating at school?" (they just finished a unit in gym where they skate every week in the gym).

Anyway, any vibes and/or prayers we could get for my wife would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Huge bummer, especially with your foot surgery. Best of luck getting mom and dad and the kids taken care of over the next several weeks as you both heal.

VIBES! VIBES! and MORE VIBES!!!!! to ALL of you. OMG! You must look like the Spirit of '76 around there. How close is Grandma? Can she come and help out? That's what we're all for, you know!

I kept reading your account, dreading a head injury, especially when you said she had blacked out at one point. So glad I was concerned for no reason on that count. So many bones in the hand. Very complicated. She'll need some good therapy there.

We'll keep vibing in the meantime. :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:
Love, love, love, Ima

Wow. I can sympathize with your wife; I messed up my shoulder in an ice skating fall last year. However, she did much more damage than I did. Major ass healing vibes to the bjornolf household.

Definitely sending vibes!!!

I had a similar experience with my dad when we were snowboarding. "One last run" left my dad with a broken wrist... I hope the healing goes quickly and she can get back to her job soon!

bjornolf, how is everything going in your house between your toe and your wife's wrists?
