Well .... I guess I'm a pansy. The only time I drank Gin and it must have been pretty cheap Gin at that was back in late 70/earlier 80's when I tapped my dad's bar. That Gin was disgusting and I've never wanted to drink gasoline again in spite of the buzz! I like Vodka and it goes with most everything! Especially Tini's of all kinds!!!!!!

I'll buy it, the gin martini was the first and is the only true martini. Vodka came after gin. But I don't like either. While the history is not conclusive, I'd also wager that any modern martini isn't near as bold a drink as the original martini which called for mar more vermouth than the martini you order today. That was a martini.

I just like my liquor simple.

As dry as I take my martinis, it practically IS drinking the gin neat. I do drink my whisky neat.

ME TOO!!!! It's after noon anyways! I think vodka is allowed in the morning! A good BM is an experience everyone should have! Celery and Celery with creamy peanut butter and cream cheese coming up!

First, I'll assume BM stands for Bloody Mary and not bowel movement
Second, I don't care for tomato juice, with or without vodka, so while I love a good bm in the morning , I don't drink BM's, not even for a hangover.

This is a good example of why I don't bother with martinis. I could tolerate a martini in a rocks glass, but the martini glass itself has got to be one of the worst, most pretentious vessels around. It's shape does nothing to promote flavor and they're too wobbly and dainty for good ol fashioned drinking. Just bruise the vodka, strain it into a rocks glass and I'm happy.

I like my liquor neat as well, but I'm not so much of a purist that I will avoid a few drops of water in my Scotch. I think it opens up more flavors.

With regard to flavor enhancement, etc., I'm sure you're probably right. But the martini glass is awesome.
Next time you're wearing a tux, order a martini. Then call me the next day and tell me you didn't love it...I dare you.
