John Lennon, Howard Cosell and Monday Night Football

Post by EarlJam » February 18th, 2010, 11:46 pm

We talked about Howard Cosell a while back (comparing him to Dickie V). Three days ago, I heard Elton John's tribute to Lennon "Empty Garden" on the radio. It brought back major memories of this amazing, if sad, night in Monday Night Football history (December 9, 1980):

Remember, these were the days of mainly just three channels on TV: ABC, NBC and CBS.

Ted Koppel...the face of "Nightline" for many years:

Not a huge Elton John fan, but appreciate him more as I get older, and this song, from his "Jump Up" album in 1982 is rarely heard but is, to me, awesome.

Anyway......discuss.
