ANGRY!

So Kelly and I had tickets to see Them Crooked Vultures last night, which means we missed the Duke - Carolina game. That's okay because we've got DVR and I taped the game. Just sat down to watch the game and about two minutes into the game the broadcast switches over to the sorry ass NC State - Virginia Tech game. Yeah, awesome. Big fat preesh to Time Warner or ESPN.

Bastards.

I'm so sorry to learn of your predicament. Charlotte is considered to be in an ACC market..... thus the switch over. Maybe it will be rebroadcast in the next week....check the schedule for Fox Sports South.

Yeah I'll definitely check the rebroadcast schedule. The problem is, this wasn't a planned switch from one network to the other. It appeared to be a problem/bug. The broadcast abruptly switched. So maybe the rebroadcast will have the same problem. :-(

Since Charlotte is an ACC market, I would think the Duke/carolina game would have been aired.

I'm pretty sure the game was blacked out on ESPN here in the triangle. We watched it on WRAL via Raycom. Do you think that may be why you didn't get the game as you may have recorded the wrong channel?

This is how it went in Atlanta. ESPN showed the first 30 secs or so of the game, then switched, while Raycom had it the whole way through.

Yup...same for here at the beach, and I guarantee you for Charlotte. It would have been on Raycom only.

That is still one craptastic way to handle things.

All the ESPN TV and radio ads said it was blacked out in the ACC markets - because Raycom has the first rights. Miles, you've been away for a while, so you're confusion is understandable, but now you know for next time!

Appreciate the lesson but I must remain firm on my position that this is an error of TIme Warner or ESPN, and not ME! It is ridiculous to assume that this is my confusion and not Time Warner or ESPN's error. Here's why:
Folks, we live in a world where software helps to design propulsion systems for shuttles and rockets. We have GPS software that can pinpoint the location of your cell phone traveling 70 mph on a freeway. I could give you fifty more examples of more complex software systems that you take for granted every day. Why in the hell can't a cable company or network fix a software bug (Yes it's a fucking bug in the software) that gives you false information about "This Show" is broadcast on "This Channel" at "This Time"?

Asking the user to learn the nuances of some back room broadcasting deal so that they know to which channel they should program a DVR to record is bullshit.

My TWC program guide said WRAL had the game on at 9 - 11. Never looked to see what was listed for ESPN. My DVR then automatically recorded Criminal Minds at 2:17 a.m.

After you've been back in state awhile, all this sort of customary stuff will be S.O.P. for you.

Oz - I actually was waiting for the game to come on and ESPN actually did say the Duke .vs. UNC game was going to be at 9-11. I was watching the last seconds of the Syracuse game and then the Tivo switched to WRAL. Cathy wasn't home yet, but she walked in from church right before tip off and she might be participating in this thread had I not trusted her "especially her Tivo skills", by taking matters into my own hands and switching back to ESPN which is what I almost did. Thank goodness I waited ..... I might have been in the :O3 house!

Miles - I'm going to show Cathy how to download Tivo recordings to computer and then if she still has it we can burn to DVD and then you can watch.

Always, always, always trust the regional broadcaster (Raycom) over ESPN.

If the Tivo guide says that the show is going to be on WRAL, then go for that station.

8-X , you are lucky that you didn't switch that channel. You would have been watching that game from the deck. :ymdevil:

I got caught by the Raycom/ESPN thing a couple times; I have a TiVo Wish List set up to automatically record Duke games, and for whatever reason, it would choose to record ESPN rather than the local channel, so if I forgot to check it, we'd end up with a recording of some other stupid crap, since we almost always wait until after the game has started to begin watching so we can skip the commercials. (Wow, that was a long sentence.) I wish, when the ESPN feed is pre-empted by Raycom, the program listing would indicate that, to avoid this issue.

I do absolutely appreciate everyone's advice on this one. I will make sure that Raycom takes precedent over the ESPN broadcast, or I"ll just record both.

I'm still pissed though. ;)

Maybe they make an app for that? But seriously, the state of software for Set top boxes has not advanced much if at all. My best set top box was TW in G'boro, better than the one I had with Comcast and the one I have now with Cincy Bell. I don't remember makes and models for all of them off-hand, but was hoping that the purchase of Scientific Atlanta by Chisco would have lead to greater improvements in this area. Perhaps the issue is on the other end?
