Copying Microsoft Office Installation Discs?

Does anyone here know if the discs for Microsoft Office (both the 2003 and the 2007 versions) are protected thus preventing them from being copied?
I own each of the above and want to make copies in case anything happens to the discs (scratched, misplaced, whatever). I tried to install another program on my computer yesterday and the disc was screwed up (luckily I also had an older version of that software so I just installed that one) so I am a little worried about that happening to my Office discs and being forced to buy the software again.
I know I could just try to copy them to see if it works but I haven't yet gotten around to installing Nero on my system and am doing other stuff today so I figured I would ask here before I bothered to install Nero. I don't need to make any other discs right now so am in no real hurry to install it except to make copies of Office for safekeeping.
So, does anyone here know if the discs for Office can be copied successfully or if they are somehow protected in order to prevent copying?

You should be able to duplicate the discs unless something has changed in the past.

Cool, thanks. I thought I had remembered hearing something about them being protected in order to prevent copying/piracy. I get why they would do that but thought it might screw up my (and others) ability to make back-up copies of software we had legally purchased.
I'll find some time early this afternoon to install Nero and then copy both versions of Office (and anything else I own so as to have extra copies of everything just in case). I wonder if I can make a copy of Windows 7 as well? Somehow I doubt it for that one...

You can copy the Windows 7 as well. Just make sure you keep a record of your software keys.

Really? Shit, that is awesome. Thanks for the info.

Since you can't install it without a valid key, it's ok to copy. What pirates
cause most problems with is providing software that does not require a key, or that one key works with multiple installs with. (Volume licensing).

I'll be sure to keep a safe copy of the product key I was provided with when I bought it so as to never lose it (emailing it to my Gmail account is a good way to always have access to it).

I have books and books of older software cd's that I can't bear to part with (what would I do if I ever needed to install Office 97 or Windows 2000???). Now that drives are getting bigger and cheaper I've been converting them to iso's (Nero will do this) and copying the iso and the key to a folder on an external drive in case anything were to happen to the original disk. Keeps me from having to maintain 2 disks.
I have managed to give up my Win95, 98 and NT install disks though....

It's a tall order to ask them to love Google. They need to love information first.

Rather than start a new thread, I'll post my question here.
We are trying to transfer data from one hard drive to a new, bigger, hard drive. The backup of the original hard drive (40Gig) is being put on an external hard drive. When it is restored to the new hard drive (160Gig), it apparently partitions the hard drive to be the same size as the original hard drive. The rest of the drive can be set up on that drive as another folder. So if you use explore, the C drive will show 40Gig but you have access to a directory that uses the other 120Gig. Is there anyway to extend the size of what the restored files are using? I'm hoping there is a parameter that can be set to allow the restoration to leave the entire 160Gig as Drive C. A possible issue in this is that, like most computers, the operating system (XP) was preloaded on the computer and we were not given the actual Windows XP program disks.
Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Your best options require 3rd party software. The very best option is to replicate the old drive to the new drive, using Ghost. It's really simple to do, but you do have to have a copy of the program. (really small program, but it comes in a big package with a bunch of fluff). The executable itself can be put on a boot cd, or a floppy if you have a boot floppy also.
Your other option is to use Partition Magic to repartition after the backup is restored to the new drive. Why does the backup restore to the same size partition by the way? How did you perform the backup? Ideally you would install xp, and then run the restore wizard, and everything would be in place on the drive in the size partition that you set during the XP install.
