Who gave most of what will not appear in the boxscore to Duke's performance against N.C. State on Wednesday?

Um, watching this game, it appeared to me that it was the entire Wolfpack team. They played out of their minds good.

As for our guys, I'd have to say Nolan Smith. He's the only guy that seemed to have passion. He hit that sweet shot at the end of the first half to at least keep us in it, and he's the only guy that shot even close to 50% for the night, well except for Lance, who only took three shots.

I went with Zoubs. Nolan was my MOTM, he did everything he could to try to get us back in it. Zoubs did everything he could as well, but he's not the one who is going to be putting points on the board. I could have just as easily gone with LT, him and Z were the only ones acitve on D and grabbing boards. LT got twice as many minutes, but I noticed what Zoubek was doing more. If he were a step faster he'd be even more of an asset on defense, State ate him for lunch getting around him to the basket, but often he was THE ONLY guy anyone had to beat.
Beyond those two choices, nobody else seemed to do much other than score. We didn't lose last night because we didn't score enough points, we lost because we let them score too many.

Nolan for MOTM, Kyle for DOTM. Kyle's defense on Wood was spectacular in the first half and good the entire game.

Lance was AWOL this game. The best thing I can say about his hands is that they will be playing somewhere else next year.

Like I said, I didn't notice LT much...but then you look at the box score and he had 12 rebounds, so he was active. I wonder if he was concerned about fouls since he's racked them up very early the last couple games.

I missed most of the game. What happened to Jon Schyer? I haven't seen anyone mention him. The Plumlees too? Did State shut us down or did we play poorly?

I went with Zoubs too. He made 3/4 free throws and grabbed some boards during a stretch where no one else was producing on offense. He silently kept us in the game. Toss-up for Single or Smith as MOTM.

State ate the entire defense for lunch on a few plays. They barely had an edge on inside scoring.

It's hard not to give credit to State for some nice inside play and down low passing. At times Duke just seemed asleep on defense, we looked flat and tired. Couple that with poor shooting and I don't think you have a chance to beat many teams.

Both teams posted similar stats for the game, the biggest difference was total FG%. Duke shot a woeful 38.6% while State lit it up for 58.2%. Smith, Single and Scheyer took more shots than the entire starting five for State, they just weren't falling down. Some of the shots were well contested, but I don't remember seeing a marvelous defensive outing by State

I honestly considered listed them (or Sidney Lowe) as an option. Geesh.

That too is why I did not vote Nolan. Nolan was my MOTM. Had Duke won, I would have likely voted for Nolan as both, since, had Duke won, the key catalyst would likely have been that "three" at the buzzer of the first half, changing the momentum.

That is a STRONG game summary. Pretty much wraps it up, especially the last sentence....which is quite true. State played well. We played like doo doo.

It's very difficult to beat a team shooting 58%+ on their field goals.

Our guys looked tired and flat, perhaps the price of the Sunday game with Wake Forest.

A very difficult thing for more inexperienced players to adjust to is the quick shift from one game to the next in conference play.

Don't know what role playing 9P games has in this series of demanding games..... the Clemson game is a 9P start, too.

That's a good point re: starting time. Duke has two more late games before Georgetown in D.C. at 1:00 PM. Then there's some variety in start times after that. Hopefully this was a good lesson on conditioning and what it takes to maintain a competitive edge during conference play.

Are we neglecting our karma? Is it time to ditch the black uniforms?

First of all, YES, ditch the black uniforms. Road blues to heal our road blues!

The more I think, ponder, agonize over last night's loss, the more I think it is an anomaly (did I spell that correctly?). We really, REALLY got banged up hard by Wake Forest. And to turn around so quickly to play such a fired up N.C. State team on the road is a lot to ask, especially of young Plumlees who are still getting used to the whole scene (namely, Mason).

Against Clemson, not saying we will win, but I think we will look much, much better. We will have had more rest (The Wolfpack game wasn't nearly as brutal as Wake). Keeping fingers crossed here.

Yea, it's definitely hard to beat a team shooting almost 60% on their home court, ESPECIALLY when you shoot LESS than 40%. :twitch:

That said, I wanna change my vote to CB&B for that comment he made in the Ed Davis thread. That's the kind of comment that costs you a STRETCH of games. I just hope we can right the kharmic ship before the Georgetown game. Quick, somebody find me a chicken to sacrifice! ;)

Speaking of which, I saw an episodes of Dirty Jobs the other day where he was helping a company chase down feral chickens in Miami that are overrunning the city. Apparently, kids set their Easter chicks free when they get too big, and these chickens now number in the TENS OF THOUSANDS in Miami. Apparently, these people chase them down with big nets to get them off the streets. They never really said what happens to the chickens afterwards, though. Maybe we could get one of those. ;)
