Juco players (front page article)

Post by CameronBornAndBred » January 11th, 2010, 11:01 pm

I knew about Felix, had no idea about the other guy, N'Diaye. Lord, I hope he's not related to Makhtar. Interesting that we are showing interest in 2 juco's, and even more interesting that they are from the same school. They must have a hell of a team.

If he's related to Makhtar that's an automatic fail - but Roy would take him. Especially if we show any interest whatsoever.

His coach was quoted as saying they'd be 16-0 if he was available - apparently he's a bit more polished then most 7 footers who come from Africa. He can play defense, block shots and shoot the dunk shot! Last year, he averaged 8 points and 8 rebounds and blocked 72 shots and they play around 30 games per season.

I was really surprised when I read this. Seems like I read somewhere that Coach K doesn't recruit juco players. Are these the first juco recruits of the Krzyzewski era?
Most people say that is it is the intellect which makes a great scientist. They are wrong: it is character.

From what I've heard he's looked before, but never really recruited anyone

AFAIK, that would be correct. The only JUCO I am aware of is George Moses who played for Duke in the Dark Ages, about the time Ozzie and I were there. The Dark Ages may be take two ways...

Aziz N'diaye won't return to the court this season as he needs more time to rehab after surgery this past summer for a torn ACL. he will have 3 years of eligibility remaining.

Article on Carrick Felix. Word is he'll announce his decision at the end of his season
Felix started the first three games in 2008 before a broken wrist ended his season. Looking back, he said the injury changed his outlook on athletics and academics, helping him become the kind of student-athlete Duke recruits.

“I think it was a blessing,” Felix said. “It made me realize what’s really important. … I think breaking my wrist made me more humble and made me realize I just got to start taking initiative and take care of my business on and off the court.”
Whether or not he goes from CSI to CIS (Cameron Indoor Stadium), Felix is determined to focus on the here and now, even when his teammates drop his new nickname, “Duke.”

Gosar said that Felix, who is averaging 15 points and five rebounds per game this season and will have three years of eligibility left in the Division I ranks, dispels many of the stereotypes that go along with junior college players.

"Aziz and Carrick aren't your typical junior college guys," he said. "They bust their butts in class and are as good a kids as you'll find."

Felix visiting Sunday. I guess he'll be coming to Greensboro to start the visit....

From the rumors floating around, an announcement will be coming in the next couple weeks as well.

Felix is in Durham today (came in last night and watched the selection show with the players) meeting with advisors, admissions, etc. Should hear one way or the other this week.

Get a commit in November (Kyrie) and win the preseason NIT. Get a commit last week and win the ACC. If we get one this week will we win the NCAA tourney?
