Big Bang Theory, the TV show

This reminds me of the old show "8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter". My wife really liked that show, but it didn't seem to be about what the title implies very often. It was sad that John Ritter died while filming it, though.

Speaking of which, the older teenage girl from that show is now on "Big Bang Theory". If you ARE a geek, are friends with a geek, or like to laugh at geeks, you owe it to yourself to check out this show. EVERY episode, my wife and I say "I know a guy JUST like that". Usually speaking about Sheldon. My favorite exchange of all time in this show:

Leonard: Check it out, the Clone Wars TV episodes have started. Check it out.
Sheldon: No, I haven't seen the Clone Wars movie yet.
Leonard: Come on, you can watch ONE episode before you see the movie.
Sheldon: No.
Leonard: Why not?
Sheldon: I prefer to be disappointed by George Lucas in the order in which he intended.

Come on, that's gold baby.

Big Bang Theory is my favorite show on TV. I have a bunch of episodes DVR'd and even though I've seen all of them I'll watch them again as they are hilarious!

Sheldon on coffee was predictable, but hilarious nevertheless.

My favorite is when somebody, usually Penny, makes an observation or suggests something, and everybody says "Oh, no" and looks fearfully at Sheldon. I always crack up when that happens.

I love Big Bang....I am the 'alpha geek' in my house at least ones per episode there is something I 'get' and laugh at that no one else does...husband and daughter just give me pathetic looks.

One of my favorite quotes

You have about as much chance of going out with Penny as the Hubble Telescope has of finding that at the center of each black hole there's a little man with a flashlight trying to find the circuit breaker

We are BBT addicts in this house. I'm a huge physics nerd, sci-fi geek and part-time gamer - although much more socially adept than these guys. My wife has hung out with people like me for a long time and is also into sci-fi and gaming (somewhat). The show speaks to us. The physics jokes are great. My wife always looks over to me after one - and always say, Yup, that's accurate.

Leonard: [discussing Sheldon's work] At least I didn't have to invent 26 dimensions to get the math to work.
Sheldon: I didn't invent them. They're there.
Leonard: Yeah? In what universe?
Sheldon: In all of them, that's the point!

Sorry to bjornolf on this one:
Sheldon: [to engineers] Hello, Oompa Loompas of science!

I also enjoy the show.

For the fans out there, check out this column on how the show has attracted the interest (in a good way) of families impacted by Asperger's.

I also love this show. I've been waiting for an intelligent comedy ever since Frasier went off the air.

There is more than just one butt to that joke on this board....

But what good is science if you can't actually do anything with it?

Out of curiosity and to slightly alter the original premise of this thread, BBT fans.... did you know that there is some debate right now (started between the producers and a few writers) to have Penny to get into a serious relationship with.... wait for it..... Sheldon?!!!

What do you think if that were to happen? Would BBT 'jump the shark' at that point?
Just look what they did with Penny and Leonard and that whole first date thing. That was painful!

My wife read that it was just going to be a hookup, but either way, he barely tolerates her in his apartment, I don't see how this could happen. Will it be like George sleeping with the Puerto Rican maid in Seinfeld when he's smart because he's not getting any? He calculates the chances of sleeping with a chick that hot ever in his life and decides that the odds tell him to go for it? Will Sheldon then get dumb for a while? Hmmm. Seems like there would be serious repercussions to ALL the relationships in that show.

Without Sheldon, the show would suck - I like the other actors but Sheldon is the best character on the show by a long stretch.

Sheldon and Penny together would be ridiculous. And how would Leonard handle it? A dumb idea that would screw up the dynamic of the show.

I totally agree. When Knights68 first mentioned it to me I asked if they were jumping the shark already.

I just can't see Sheldon in an intimate relationship with anyone, never mind a sexual relationship.

Just thought I'd resurrect this thread to talk about Monday's episode. How funny was it that Penny called out Leonard's name when making out with Stuart? I was =)) =)) =)) =)) =))

And I loved the whole space toilet thing, especially when he let Leonard leave after the diatribe about how he'd have to listen to him whine about Penny the whole time.

I'm hoping that kills any possibility of Penny and Sheldon getting together.

The kicking him in his ovaries comment was a good one. And so was Sheldon's 'refund on your Master's degree' jibe.

Was it just me, or did anyone else notice that Sheldon laughed twice when he found two jokes made by others funny?
As well as made an attempt at humor that actually wasn't half bad? I hope he is not evolving ins ome way that will make him more societal normal (which I cannot imagine).

Last nights episode was one of the best so far! Hilarity on so many different levels. And I just wonder how they'll play out the Leonard/Penny angle?

Yes, I too hope Sheldon/Penny thing is little more than a hoax, or perhaps a balloon sent up into the internet by the writers to see how received it would be (which obviously it was anything but!)
