"Pursuit of Perfection"

What are the odds that at halftime of tonight's NFL game (or on SportsCenter if you're not getting the game), the phrase "pursuit of perfection" will be uttered at least three to twelve times? Saints. Colts. PURSUIT OF PERFECTION!

Well, colts interception with 0.57 seconds left. I'm thinking the game is over?
and now... the clock is clicking down to 0.00!

I hope the Indianapolis professional football team, falls hard on their arses before this season is over. I've hated the Indy team since their arrogant bastard of an owner moved them out of Baltimore in the middle of the night 25 or so years ago.
And, DON'T bother telling me to get over it. Never will!!!!
Go Saints!!
Go Ravens!!

Model did NOT move the Browns in the middle of the night like Irsay did. Huge, Huge, HUGE difference.
Look, teams move and fans hate it, I get that. BUT, only smarmy bastards do it in the middle of the night. Especially after said smarmy bastard denied, denied, denied he was talking to other cities about moving the Baltimore Colts. He was a vindictive little imp.

The NFL Network is atrocious. Not every carrier has purchased the rights to watch the games, so in a lot of markets the NFL Network games aren't available. The only exception are local market games. If you live in/around Charlotte, and don't have cable, the NFL guarantees that you will see your local team play, unless of course the ticket agreements aren't met and the game is blacked out.
If you're "lucky" enough to watch a NFL Network game, you should immediately notice the horrible production, low-grade graphics and animations, and just down-right shittyness.

After Irsay pulled that stunt, the NFL established a mechanism by which teams couldn't do that again.
Modell ripped out a long-standing civic institution and focus of the city. Yeah, I guess that's a huge, huge difference from what happened in Baltimore. ;)
Here's a sample of what Cleveland Browns fans felt like (at the time) about the move:

No snarkiness (what a GREAT word) in my response. I just used to work with someone from Cleveland, and there were two words I could never say in front of him: ART MODELL.

And Fox's overuse of graphics, animations, and volume/sound effects is, well, just down-right what?
How many times do they need to show some animatronic robot dancing while they give you some spiel about a sponsor?
A plague on both houses!

1. Cleveland fans knew their team was leaving, Baltimore fans did not. Irsay ripped out a "long-standing civic institution and focus of the city" IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FRIGGIN' NIGHT. How is that not a huge difference?
2. Cleveland got to keep their name, Baltimore did not.
3. Cleveland got a team a helluva a lot sooner than Baltimore did.
I understand how Cleveland fans feel, but you will never convince me what happened to them is exactly the same thing that happened to Baltimore fans or that they had it worse.
As far as I'm concerned the colts are dead. You will never hear me refer to the team in Indianapolis as anything other than the Indianapolis professional football team.

Granted Irsay's move was classless and definitely devious. On the other hand the city of Baltimore in conjunction with the Maryland Senate have to be held responsible for creating such a hostile environment, one that ultimately made Irsay feel that the best course of action was a midnight move in Mayflower trucks. I'll reiterate, I think what he did was pretty horrible, but I also think the city and state were horrible too.
If I were a business owner, unhappy with city regulations and poor cooperation from city planners, and then woke up one day and realized the state senate had just passed a law that allowed them to legally take my business from me, I think I might've done the same thing. The State of Maryland got what it deserved, unfortunately the fans were hurt in the process.
I understand the pain and resentment, but it might be worthwhile to look at what really caused the problem. The fans were let down and betrayed by their elected officials, not Irsay.

No salt pouring intended. It just seems unfair that history will remember Irsay as an arrogant bastard and nobody will remember the truth, or hold the real people accountable for the actions that led up to the move. Elected officials are just as guilty, if not more so, than Irsay yet nobody will stand up and say it. Maybe it's more fashionable to hate corporations and their owners, or maybe we're all so tired and bored of being screwed over by the government that we direct our anger towards Irsay.
For me, Irsay's biggest crime was that he promised the rights to the name "Colts" would remain in Baltimore. Reneging on his word there makes him a supreme douche bag. And for that my dear Tilly, I will support and endorse your reference to the Indianapolis Professional Football Team.

Irsay wanted/demanded a new stadium, though wasn't able to fill the one they had, Memorial Stadium. In fact, if anyone deserved a new stadium it was the O's. They had just won the World Series, and had no problem filling the seats.
Irsay could have fought the the law as, though I'm not a lawyer, I doubt the eminent domain law would have held up had it been challenged.
The legislature couldn't stand by and watch a company that brought in millions of dollars into the economy in Baltimore and the State of Maryland. As a result of losing the Colts, teams didn't travel to Baltimore, fans of those teams didn't travel to Baltimore, thus hotel rooms were empty, restaurants lost business. Not to mention, a lot of people lost their job.
To blame the legislature for Irsay running out in the middle of the night, is just too easy. Irsay made all the decisions, he chose to move his team in the middle of the night, not the legislature.

Amen! Though I like Peyton Manning a lot, I will never get over the "Escape from Baltimore" episode. A significant portion of EarlJam's heart belongs to Baltimore.

Irsay was a schmuck.
So was Modell.
I guess Al Davis might be one as well.
Toss in Bill Bidwell.
