Let it SNOW!?
I, EarlJam am coming to North Carolina tomorrow and may be bringing snow with me! The forecast is calling for 1-3 inches of snow tomorrow night and Saturday! I feel like a little kid! I have always loved the snow, and looking at the long range forecast, they are calling for snow showers on Christmas Day!
In short, "Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehah!"
Any weather buffs out there have more inside scoop on this? Being in Atlanta, I, of course, do not get the local forecast.

Yeah let's be sure it holds off. The Usul family is driving to NJ tomorrow, and I'm hoping for snow-free roads all the way up.

Re: Let it SNOW!?
The model for this weather event is a classic for Piedmont North Carolina..... cold front falling down from the north while moisture moves up from the Gulf. Our heaviest snow falls happen when these factors come together just right.EarlJam wrote:I, EarlJam am coming to North Carolina tomorrow and may be bringing snow with me! This storm is still developing..... it's all about timing.... like so many things in life! I'm guessing that those early afternoon flights at RDU will be OK, but later in the day and after dark, there could be a little snow accumulation to contend with. The storm will be moving east on something of a diagonal line....... timing will be the key factor in determining whether the Triad or the Triangle gets more snow and less rain or other winter precipitation. The precipitation is expected to continue to fall overnight Friday and into Saturday morning.
Now looking ahead to Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, we are in a repeating weather pattern it seems. There could be a bit of a white Christmas this year, but I think we need to keep any eye on the developments in the early part of the week when very low temperatures will occur each night.... temperatures in the low twenties and maybe teens depending on where you live in the Piedmont. Daytime temperatures will, at best, be in the forties, so the ground will have plenty of opportunity to get pretty cold..... setting up an interesting arena for any weather events during Christmas Week.
This is the year to make some of your best chili or Brunswick to enjoy on those cold evenings!

I'm heading up to DC to spend the night at 's house, before driving up to NYC on Saturday for the game. I don't think I'll have any problems getting to 's tomorrow, but I am worried about the drive on Saturday. I may look into leaving my car in DC and taking the train up and back. Might make a ton of sense to do that.DukeUsul wrote:Yeah let's be sure it holds off. The Usul family is driving to NJ tomorrow, and I'm hoping for snow-free roads all the way up.

We're planning to head to Worcester, MA on Saturday for a big family party. We may be skipping it if the snow makes it that far north.OZZIE4DUKE wrote:I'm heading up to DC to spend the night at 's house, before driving up to NYC on Saturday for the game. The train is out. Round trip would cost ~$240. I may just drive up to Secaucus on Friday and stay in a (relatively cheap) hotel (sorry 's, maybe next time) and train or bus to MSG/Penn Station in the morning.OZZIE4DUKE wrote:I'm heading up to DC to spend the night at 's house, before driving up to NYC on Saturday for the game. Re: Let it SNOW!?
Thanks for the compliment, but EarlJam, that's not just optimism! I'm applying a model and forecasting based on years of learning about weather because of my first career. The weather forecasts being circulated in the western Piedmont include 66(out of 100) NC counties under a winter weather watch or warning. The current warnings are for snow and sleet accumulations across the Piedmont with higher accumulations in the west. The roads and overpasses may become very slick on Friday evening.EarlJam wrote:For selfish reasons, this is one of my favorite posts ever! I need to get my kid to RDU for a 6:15 a.m. flight on Saturday. My other kid arrives at 8:45 p.m. on Saturday.
I do not need to be stranded in Raleigh or along US 264 or along I-40 or I-540. I do not need for my kids to be stranded anywhere.
Please, dear God, let this snow talk be wishful thinking and lots of hype!

Others have clearly made their stance known on this thread but yours is confusing to me. Could you please be a little more clear? Do you or do you NOT want it to snow? It's really hard to tell through your ambiguous post.
