Duke Defensive Coordinator Mike MacIntyre has accepted the head coaching position at San Jose State.

Congrats to him but his loss hurts. I heard him speak before we played GaTech. Boy, does he ever know defense. And how to defend the option. It'll be interesting to see who Coach Cut gets to replace him - someone of high qualities and capabilities, I'm sure.

I think this is really cool. I may be a Spartan mom next year. (Keeping my fingers, eyes and legs crossed that Sam pulls off an admissions office miracle and gets in. As of today, they haven't said "no.")

MacIntyre has his work cut out for him at SJSU:

SJSU has horrible facilities. Their stadium is worse than most high school football stadiums.



SJSU lost 11 of their last 14 games. Their team perennially sucks. So, it's not much of a stretch for him to move from Duke to SJSU. MacIntyre will find a similar situation. (Except for their academics. SJSU's athletes are not scholars. This will be the true challenge for MacIntyre: to get his players to graduate.)

SJSU opens its 2010 season at Alabama.

I wonder what San Jose State is going to pay him. I wonder where he'll live. I wonder where his kids will go to school.

I wish MacIntyre the very best, and maybe I'll get out there to see him coach a game or two over the next four years.

OMG, and now apparently, the SJSU marching band has problems, too. Seems that thieves have taken over $20K worth of band instruments.
