I'm getting a cortisone shot in my ass on Tuesday, Jan. 5. Does anyone have any knowlege, advice, stories, tips, etc. you can share from experience?
I've asked my doctor some questions, and have surfed the net, but thought perhas someone here would be able to offer up something new, unique, serious. I know it's a pretty minor thing, but still..........
Thanks in advance.

The OP says (and he's had just about every torture in the name of therapy known to man for his arthritis) that the cortisone shots are pretty ouchy but that they work. That's all I can tell ya. Bite on a cork and go for it!!! (Don't neglect to drink whatever the cork uncorked!)
Love, Ima

I have gotten cortisone shots in my shoulders twice - once in each several years apart, the last ~3 years ago. I had no discomfort and they worked well. I had been warned beforehand that that was not always the case. But they stopped my shoulder pain and won't hesitate to get another one if I need it.
What joint are you having problem with that you need a shot in the ass?

My mom has had several. They definitely hurt, they definitely help, but most doctors will say they only work so many times in a particular spot, and that if you get too many in one place, it'll start to atrophy that tissue. So, a couple are okay, but try to avoid too many in one place.

I second bjornolf's advice. Avoid taking too many shots in the ass EJ.

Osteonecrosis is a serious side effect of cortisone shots. You might want to talk to your doctor about this.

I had one in my shoulder many moons ago. It worked...that day. The next day I had pain of a different sort. This pain was from the invasion of the needle. This lasted for a couple of days, then everything returned to normalcy.
seriously

I have had one for de Quervains Syndrome - shot in my wrist and then a brace for 3 weeks. 10 months of pain gone and hasn't come back - that was 4 years ago.

Dude - what did you do to make your ass hurt so much that it requires a cortisone shot?
Wait, some things are best left unsaid...

Thanks, Cathy. I used to work with an osteologist who always warned of this.

Actually,Dr. Wang Ching (yes, his real name) tells me that I am to get two shots - one in the lower back for a herniated disk (an ongoing issue with me, EarlJam), and one in the left arse cheek to help with inflammation around the hip (caused by the nerve fruckedupness).
For this procedure, I am to wear creamscicle shoes (Google NBA shoes). Just now seeing this, hence why I type it. My goodness.
