Most pours were 2-3 oz as that’s what festival planners decreed and I’d certainly agree with this policy. Therefore, y’all gonna get 2-3 oz reviews :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:. Pours seemed to increase to 4-5 oz as the hours passed :face_with_spiral_eyes:. In alphabetical order by brewery name:

Lurking in Hallways Barrel Aged Dark Sour-Bhramari Brewing Company

Some cherry and oak flavors to accompany some dark, dried fruits. ABV was maybe 7%. Mid/upper cat 2. @fuse was also underwhelmed by this and another they poured that was not listed and I didn’t taste.

White Oak Aged Blonde with Blueberries and Raspberries-Bill’s Brewing Company

First pour of the night. Very pleasant mixed berry flavors with a bit of pucker. Mrs. dd liked her sip of this and only tasted one other as she was the DD for the trip home. ABV was 5.5%. Upper cat 2.

Wilt Cherrywood Smoked Quad-Brewery Bhavana

Sipped about midway through the evening as the pours increased in size ( :face_with_hand_over_mouth:) and ABV choices did, too.

Dark brown sugar and dark, dried fruits along with a hint of smoke. Available on draft at the restaurant in downtown Raleigh but not in bottles/cans so I was delighted to get a small pour. ABV at 9%. Upper cat 2.

Wayward Traveler Barrels Aged Golden Ale with Tangerine-Broomtail Brewing

An early sipper that Mrs. dd also like but not quite as much the blueberry/raspberry blonde. Mildly cloudy orange amber, smallish head with notes of oak and tangerine, rind and all. ABV was 5.4%. Upper cat 2.

More Voracious and Rare:

Bruelesque Cabernet Barrel Aged Flanders Red Sour Ale-Breuprint Brewing Company

Mighta been best of show for me. Combine the vinous flavors of the wine barrel aging with the cherry cider vinegar sour tastes of the Flanders red ale and you have a magnificent beverage, even at “only” 4.8% ABV. Mid/upper cat 3.

Even more Voracious and Rare:

Eatin ’ Puddin’ Bourbon Barel Aged Pastry Stout-Dirtbag Ales Brewery and Taproom

The brewery name was not conducive to visiting this tent but the beer name certainly was and well worth the stop. The puddin’ part was revealed whilst chatting with the pourmasters who claimed 800 lbs (combi9ned, not each) of chocolate, vanilla and butterscotch pudding was “sacrificed” in the production of this gem. Flavors matched well and at 12.3% ABV, this was quite the sipper near the end of the evening. Mid cat 3.

“He’s rolling”

Even more Voracious and Rare:

Split Tongue Talker White Chocolate Peanut Butter Imperial Honey Stout-DSSOLVR Brewing

Last beer of the night for me, IIRC, and it was another “sip slowly” brew @ 11% ABV. A peanut butter and honey sandwich loaded with chocolate chips on the palate. Low cat 3.

More and more voraciousness:

Fortunate Fate 2021-Edward Teach Beer Company

A coconut and vanilla adjuncted non barrel-aged imperial stout with heavily roasted grains and some accompanying dark chocolate chip flavors. Another “sippa” at 11% ABV. Probably will sneak this into low cat 3 but the coconut and vanilla themed brews of the evening ultimately tasted fairly similar after a couple hours.

Let’s try another short run of more and more voracious:

I Would Work From Home But-Evil Twin Brewing

An early taster and somewhat disappointing coming from a brewery with a pretty good rep. DIPA at 8% ABV that had the expected color but a week nose and simply not the juicy, citrusy and/or tropical flavors I expect from this style in a quite crowded arena. Mid cat 2.

More?

Coconut Whomst-Flying Machine Brewing Company

Another of the coconut and vanilla adjuncted imperial stouts that tasted similar to the prior/subsequent one/s. Can’t remember any other additives and the program I’m working from has no other info. Above average but at 10% ABV it shoulda been a bit more viscous and had more palate appeal. Upper cat 2.

More and more.

Old Fashioned Inspired Ale-Mad Mole Brewing

Another early tasting near our tent before we became more familiar with the layout and locations of favorites and/or recommendations of others. Mild orange and cherry tastes all achieved with their hop and grain choices and without any additives or barrel aging. Good effort but at 8.2% ABV, I’d have let it slumber in some booze barrels and added cherries and OJ and/or orange zest to it for more authenticity. Mid cat 2.

And, completing the front page of the program:

2021 Sin Highway Imperial Stout-New Anthem Beer Project

The chocolatey imperial stout flavors were rich enough and the vanilla, cinnamon additions nicely mitigated the habanero presence allowing only a very mild heat up front and mid-palate with minimal late “burn.” At 11.2% ABV, it reminded me of their 2 prior Prophets, Hillbilly and Roadside and was a low cat 3 entrant.

Nearing the end:

Wolfinanny Wheat Wine-Sierra Nevada Brewing Company

I think the beer stewards said this was BBA in addition to being 11.5% ABV, not 9.2% as listed on the program :no_mouth:. Notes of orange liqueur, bourbon, caramel and grapefruit. Low cat 3.

Trip in the Woods BBA Rum Quad-Sierra Nevada Brewing Company

I didn’t verity the BBA and/or rum barrel aging as in the title. Lots of dark, dried fruits, plum, bourbon, dark caramel and more booze. ABV was 11.7% and it felt it. Low cat 3. I’ve liked several other variants from their Trip in the Woods series but it’s been 5 years, maybe more.

Last of my samplings:

Tequila BA Imperial Cherry Gose-Waterline Brewing Company

Can’t decide whether this was “best of show” or the Bruepint cab barrel aged Flander sour won my gold medal on Friday. Lots of slightly sour/slightly sweet cherry soda flavors with lemon-lime, a pinch of salt, wet oak and agave/tequila flavors. No lightweight at 8% ABV.
