Entertained by a pro se defendant this morning who set himself a jury trial next week. Argued for an hour with the judge. Requested the court declare a mistrial. Judge asked, "sir, how can I declare a mistrial when we haven't even started a trial yet?"

It's coworker Emily's case, and she suggested I wear socks appropriate to the occasion, so today's socks have bats. Because this guy is bat shit crazy. (I remember him as a defendant in Patrick County in 1995, and he was well-known in the courthouse even then).

In court all morning. I appreciate defense counsel allowing his client to talk herself into a conviction. I wouldn't have gotten it without her help. As Ron White so aptly stated, (she) had the right to remain silent, but (she) did not have the ability.

Just a little late. They gave me a new computer yesterday while I was out and it took me the morning to get it more or less set up.

Update on knee: Doc said they didn't do total knees until a person got bone on bone, and I was nowhere near that yet. Did an old fashioned test that showed I had a torn meniscus. Gave me a cortisone shot and said if that didn't work we would schedule an MRI with an eye toward a scope. Way better idea that doc one who wanted to go ahead and make me bionic.
