Fun fact I learned yesterday: Swimming has a 2 per country per vent rule (one relay team per country with obviously more than 2 swimmers on it). The top two finishers at the Olympic trials get the nod for the US team.

Other useles info: in figure skating the number of allowed entries per country per event (ladies/men/pairs/dance) is based on your nations highest finish in that event in the previous world championships.
I detest autos pelt (auto spell).
Jordyn should have been a sprinter on the track. Athletics (track and field) allows a max of 3 compatriots per event.

I agree. You know that the women's gymnastic team competition had just two teams, the US and Russia. Oh hey... the Romanians got a little glimpse on TV. Funny how those were the only three teams in the competition. No battle for silver and bronze, right?

And you know, cycling today in the velodrome consisted of only one race: GBR vs. France. At least I know who won, and that Wills and Kate were there.

On the other hand, I think the camera work has been fantastic in swimming. The trouble for me is seeing the results in advance of primetime coverage. And hey... when will they show Phelps vs. Lochte tonight? I guess the over under will be with 30 minutes left in programming.

Yeah for Lauren! I thought of her as I watched the medal ceremony. I wish those that swam in the qualifying heats could stand up there also.

Congrats to Lauren :happy-bouncyblue: and yes, why don't the other (qualifying swimmers) relay team members stand on the podium? They get the gold medal but no recognition. I guess they get the $25K cash prize also.

US men's volleyball team just snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. Great comeback by Russia.

Galen Rupp... WOW! US sucks in the 10000m run, having won medals only 3 times. Rupp was spiked, bled, but put in a blazing stretch kick to come in second to his training partner, British Mo Farah. Both train under Alberto Salazar, whose story is amazing.

What IS it about PK's that just kills English/British soccer teams? Team GBR lost to South Korea on the 5th PK.

NBC's coverage of the Olympics stinks, and yet I can't stop watching.

The Jamaican sprinters are amazing, and they have the coolest accents ever. Most of them have overcome incredible odds to be where they are. Makes me realize how lucky I am.

Yes, NBC sucked me in on a fluff piece.

Speaking of amazing, can anyone beat Kerri Walsh-Jennings and Misty May-Treanor? They are so in tune with each other on the court. It's really entertaining to watch.

I Tivo'd Friday night's coverage, and ended up blowing through 4 hours of broadcast time in 1.5 hours. It was the best way to watch, hands-down.

I admit to getting sucked in to the human interest story about the 1996 women's gymnastics squad; I didn't realize that final vault of Strugg's was career-ending. Damn, how heartbreaking, but what a way to go out.

Speaking of gymnastics coverage, did the mens' competition drop the rings? I watched all the primetime men's coverage, and never saw a single rings performance, but I thought I heard the announcers talk about the scores on the rings.
