I like pickled beets. The OP canNOT eat chili without a sweet pickle on the side, bless his heart, and I vote for all the pickles you can pile onto my Chick Filet. Just thought you'd all be fascinated to know all that.

Re: I'd like some pickles.
Have you given the pickled variety a chance? It's been my experience that they're crisp and cruncy, far from slimy/snotty. I like okra in soups and stews too, but it can go awry. Wonder what the secret to slimeless okra is?wilson wrote:I love fried okra and rather strongly dislike it in all other forms...too slimy/snotty.devildeac wrote:Take him 2 jars-he can have mine. Yeah, I don't much care for pickled okra either...it's a fairly common "fancy" garnish in Bloody Mary's, but it's just not my thing.Miles wrote:Have you given the pickled variety a chance? It is? That's nasty...I'll stick with my celery, thanks.wilson wrote:...it's a fairly common "fancy" garnish in Bloody Mary's, but it's just not my thing.

Me too. But truth be told, I'm not wild about celery either.CameronBornAndBred wrote:It is? That's nasty...I'll stick with my celery, thanks.wilson wrote:...it's a fairly common "fancy" garnish in Bloody Mary's, but it's just not my thing.

Re: I'd like some pickles.
When I first started eating meals at my girlfriend's house back when we were dating (yes, I'm talking about Mrs. Ozzie) and they ate okra, or okro if you prefer ;) ), I couldn't believe anyone ate that crap. My future MIL even hid it in her vegetable soup. That's still the only way it passes through my lips.wilson wrote:I love fried okra and rather strongly dislike it in all other forms...too slimy/snotty.devildeac wrote:Take him 2 jars-he can have mine. Would you prefer the jalapeno slices, olives, pickles, etc. in a ramekin on the side?Miles wrote:Give me a skewer loaded with jalapeno slices, olives, pickles...

I love it fried and breaded. Seems like it gets a lil slimy when not breaded but I like that also!wilson wrote:I love fried okra and rather strongly dislike it in all other forms...too slimy/snotty.

That's a good tip on the crunchy aspect, I like it like that and can't wait to taste! You guys are making me hungry! I really love okra in soups and stews, CathyCA makes the best shrimp jambalaya and gumbo! I wonder if the secret to slimeless okra is the breading? Betcha TNT knows if I can't find it on the internet before he replies! ;)Miles wrote:Have you given the pickled variety a chance? VDB - that sounds wonderful! I hope you do also and I would love to know how you do it, can I also get a tour of the factory some time? What's the deal with deep-fried pickles? Are they worth it?

Yup. Next time you're in town, we should all hit up Tyler's Tap Room for a few beers and some deep-fried pickles.Lavabe wrote:What's the deal with deep-fried pickles? Are they worth it?
