From the Chronicle:
"Contrary to Internet rumors, no team meeting has been held to inform the players of Cutcliffe’s decision to remain at Duke or leave for Tennessee, according to four members of the Blue Devil football team who requested anonymity. "

I still think that the chances are decidedly that Cut will head to Knoxville, but we ain't dead yet.

WRAL has a statement up from Cut himself:
"After much thought and consideration, Karen and I reached the decision that Duke is the place for our family. We have both family members and lifetime friends in the Knoxville community and share a deep respect for the University of Tennessee. Our ties to the school and the Eastern Tennessee area are obvious. But before Tennessee’s hiring process comes to a conclusion, I know that Duke University is where we want to coach."

Well this is certainly refreshing news for the eyes this morning. Though only rumors, I've learned that "they are going" rumors usually turn out to be true. Not sure if it's signed (or not signed) on the dotted line yet, but things certainly are looking much better!

We're good, man. The Duke athletic department and Cutcliffe himself have both released statements saying he's staying in Durham. ESPN is reporting it. WRAL has it. The Chronicle has it.
This truly blows my mind. I am getting chills at the thought that Tennessee wanted our football coach, someone with deep roots in Knoxville, and he said no.
David Cutcliffe has just skyrocketed in my pantheon of Duke people. He may be a Tennessee native, but he's a Duke guy. He just gets the way we try to do things, in a way that most people (like, say, a Lane Kiffin) won't ever understand. For his football skills, but just as importantly, for his commitment to young people's lives and to a sustained, devoted effort, we are immensely lucky to have him.
And this seals it...I will be at this fall's season opener, screaming my freaking head off when he comes through the tunnel.
What a great day.

Why are you waiting for confirmation? The link that you posted has a quote from Cut saying he's staying. That's not confirmation enough?

Oh, wait, it's the same statement that Wilson has later from WRAL.

That'll teach me to post before reading the rest of a thread. :ymblushing:

Still, the important thing is it looks like we're keeping our guy! Yay!
