Speaking of tattoos, does anyone know someone who has had another person's name tattooed on their person? I do not, BTW.

I do - but in all cases it is either the name of a child or a memorial tatoo.

Yes, I do. Know someone I mean. A friend of mine has a tattoo of the pink breast cancer ribbon with a date and her mom's name and "I'll miss you" up high on her right butt cheek/lower back. Her mother died of breast cancer a few years ago.

But it came out great and I'm really pleased. The artist took a pic for his portfolio (they don't frequently do this). He said he'd been looking forward to my piece all week and that he'd never done a sextant before. The whole shop seemed to be pretty into it.

Oh, 8-x was just admiring the intricacy of DD's tattoo and his bravery in enduring all those needle sticks.

It's funny...it really doesn't feel like you'd think a bunch of needle sticks would. It pretty much feels like a knife scraping into your skin.

Now I know why Wilson was fired from that summer job as a tattoo salesman!

Whatever...nobody sells any tattoos by convincing people it's not gonna hurt. It really just doesn't feel good. As they say, though, the pain is part of the whole thing. You'd better be damn well sure that you want the image you've selected in the place you've selected. I'm always perplexed at people who try to decide where to get their tattoos based on how badly people tell them it's going to hurt. It fucking hurts, anywhere. It does hurt different amounts for different in different places, and the worst places on the body seem to differ from person to person, but it universally hurts. Knowing this, I'd think people would elect to endure the pain in a place where they really want the image, rather than compromising and putting it (very permanently) in a place that isn't their first choice so that they can minimize the couple of hours' worth of pain. :-?? :twocents:

Man, I was just trying to be funny. I picked my spot based on where my wife's (then GF) tattoo was.

Oh, no worries...I knew you were just joshin'. But truth be told, the knowledge that getting a tattoo hurts and the resultant "badge of honor" is a real feeling. It's far from the biggest appeal of the process for me, but being not an especially "tough" guy to begin with, I do feel a shred of pride at having endured the process twice now.
Also for me, there's a certain psychological dimension of it. A lot of the meaning behind my ink has been forged in some (mostly emotionally) painful circumstances through which I persevered. I see the short-term pain of actually getting the tattoo and then the long-term pleasure of having it there as a parallel.
