Cellar Door #13-Brewery Bhavana

Still brewing (but not this beer) and still local

Credit-a delectable trader from RJ about a year ago, I guess; thanks many times!!
Style-bourbon and port barrel aged imperial stout
Format-750 ml capped bottle, shared unequally 3 ways last PM
Stemware-large snifters for younger son in law and me and mini snifter for daughter; Mrs. dd is not a stout aficionado
Appearance-dark, dark brown, ruby edges and a thin, thin tan head
Nose-bourbon and port
Mouthfeel-alluring
Tastes-bourbon, port, dark chocolate, wet oak, char, bun molasses/brown sugar
IBU-SWAG of about 50
ABV-12.5% (alarm bells sound)
Overall impression-decadently executed with wonder blending of barrels and flavors
Ymm, Beer rating-finds a spot in the masked and vaccinated crowd on the top shelf of cat 3
[redacted] them and the horses they rode in on.

Local for the buying/mule-ing guy.

Credit-a trader from wbmcards88; thanks!!
Style-double barrel aged Belgian style dark ale
Format-500 ml bottle, shared 2 ways last PM
Stemware-snifters
Appearance-muddy medium/dark ruby brown; thin, thin head
Nose-bourbon and red wine
Mouthfeel-soft
Tastes-the BBA (New Riff distillery) lends dark caramel, bourbon and vanilla; the red wine barrel imparts tannins, dark berries and cherries and the style puts forth dark, dried fruits, molasses and dark Belgian candi sugar
IBU-maybe 30
ABV-12.5%
Overall impression-another great barrel product from Rheingeist
Ymm, Beer rating-mid cat 3; pretty complex brew with the style and 2 different barrels but a wonderful Happy New Year beer

Well I had it on NYE, so it wasn't the first beer that went down my gullet. That being said, I was pretty sober when I cracked it open.
Pouring it into the glass (there was no way I was drinking this from the bottle) was like unloading a thin syrup. I wish I could tell you all about the flavor notes, but it was late, and even though sober, I was tired. I simply wanted to welcome in a hopefully better year with something that I knew would be worthy. I can tell you that during the hour I sipped it, all of it was amazing. Without question, one of the best "plain" brews I've had all year. Plain meaning nothing added...no barrel aging or fruits or anything else. An IPA in a pure form. There is a reason this is highly sought ale, and the aging didn't disappoint. I almost wish I had a new one next to it to compare to.
That might be something for an upcoming tailgate if someone brings a more recent addition.
In my fridge I've still got a 2006 Bigfoot that you gave me, which is of course older than the 120 I enjoyed last night. That one would make an interesting comparison, too. But we'll save that one for a worthy game that Coach Elko takes us to on New Years Day. :D

Reverse mini-vertical from last PM:

Coffee Infused Bourbon Barrel Aged Sexual Chocolate-Foothills Brewing Company

336 neighbor

Credit-a gem I stumbled upon at Wegman’s almost a year ago after a tip from the 336ers
Style-c’mon now
Format-12 ounce cans, a new format; not shared
Freshness stuff-winter, 2020
Stemware-snifter
Appearance-quite a dark brown with a thickish mocha head
Nose-bourbon and coffee
Mouthfeel-how could it be anything but sexual?
Tastes-fairly equal parts coffee, cocoa and bourbon with some burnt caramel and molasses
Adjuncts-cocoa powder (I think) and local coffee
IBU-75
ABV-9.6% (surprised the BBA and/or variants are not a bit higher)
Overall impression-still high quality stuff, especially at $11.99 for the 4 pack, a much better price than those inflated $14.99 4 packs sold in the NC city with the hyphen
Ymm, Beer rating-on the low/mid cat 3 danger zone
[redacted] them and the horses they rode in on.

I'm not sure I've ever cellared a Big Foot that long. I'll usually try to drink my aged beer in <10 years :ymblushing: .

Coffee Infused Bourbon Barrel Aged Sexual Chocolate-Foothills Brewing Company

Yep, 336 is still local.

Credit-a trader from RJ a long time ago in a land far, far away; thanks!!
Style-please don’t ask me again
Format-bomber, shared 3 ways
Freshness-September, 2019
Stemware-snifters
Appearance-dark and handsome but not fearless; a bit less of a mocha head
Nose-espresso and more espresso
Mouthfeel-still sexual
Tastes-cups and cups of espresso, followed by dark cocoa (is there such a thing?), heavily roasted grains and bourbon
Adjuncts-cocoa powder (or nibs, not sure; bottle in recycle ) and local coffee
IBU-75; always
ABV-9.6%; always
Overall impression-almost a “different” beer than the 2020 canned version with all the espresso flavors
Ymm, Beer rating-low cat 3; I liked the balance in the 2020 better but this was still greatly received and appreciated by the 3 tasters last PM

Daughter Janice gave me a six pack of assorted beers for Christmas. I’m going drink a couple during the Cowboys football game that starts at 4:25 pm.

First up: Starr Hill, Snow Blind Doppelbock Ale. A full bodied winter ale.

Starr Hill brews some sneaky good beers as evidenced by a very tasty mixed 4 pack of their Double Chocolate Stout and variants I received as traders last month.

Haven't had a Southern Tier product in a while. I looked at your link at it reads like a very good winter ale.

From last night’s beer jamboree:

Wee Heavy-Incendiary Brewing Company

Hi, 336 neighbors!

Credit-trader (or bet payoff) from RJ; many, many thanks!!
Style-not just any Wee Heavy but a barrel aged Scotch style ale
Barrel type-Buffalo Trace
Format-pint can, shared two ways
Canned on-11/15/21
Stemware-Stella Brew snifters
Appearance-murky brown; modest light tan topping
Nose-caramel and bourbon
Mouthfeel-soft and gentle
Tastes-dark caramel, bourbon, vanilla, slightest hint of smoke, tobacco, wet leather
Grains-2 Row, Crystal 80, Extra Dark Crystal, Chocolate and Carapils
Yeast-Scottish ale
IBU-maybe 30
ABV-12.3% (really dangerous)
Overall impression-highly impressive pick of the mixed 4 pack litter with the other 3 being Willett BBA, Cruzan rum and apple brandy barrels
Ymm, Beer rating-I made room on the upper shelf of my cat 3 collection for this one; yea, it’s that good

Their 15 can pack is one of my go to samplers, especially when on sale. There really isn't a bad brew in the box, including the lower ABV 8 Days and the Live Session.

Yea, Southern Tier is an underrated brewery. I think I've had 2 of those 5 styles/flavors in the past and remember them fondly.
