Stroopwaffel-Fonta Flora Brewing

Nearby.

Credit-a trader from fuse last Saturday; thanks!!
Style-liquid pastry/cookie? (no, not that kinda shit pastry; no toaster needed here)

Adjuncts-“honey stinger waffles”
IBU-“no IBU” but I’ll guess 30
ABV-3.8% (what? light beer?)

Ymm, Beer rating-mid/upper cat 2; this one definitely got lost with the big boys last week

IBU-(broken record) “no IBU” but probably mid 30s
ABV-9%
Overall impression-didn’t know what to expect with this blending and was pleasantly surprised
Ymm, Beer rating-low cat 3; the BBA barleywine component does not overwhelm its lager brother; very palate friendly

Format-corked and caged 750 ml bottle divided over 2 nights
Serving vessel-cute 2018 Hardywood tumbler
Appearance-brilliant gold; modest off white head

Style-can’t be more obvious (a Magellan Series variant of their Dire Wolf imperial stout)
Format-8 ounce pony/nip bottle, shared
Stemware-tumblers
Appearance-dark, dark mahogany; thin, tan head
Nose-incredible
Mouthfeel-soft, smooth
Tastes-brandy (d’oh!), vanilla, dark chocolate, vanilla, fudge, dark/dried fruits, wood
Adjuncts-Madagascar vanilla beans and Nicaraguan coffee
IBU-probably 50
ABV-10.8% (felt/tasted like 14-15%)
Overall impression-fabulous
Ymm, Beer rating-upper shelf cat 3; Dire Wolf continues to give Jackie O’s a formidable foe for the best brewery in Ohio title

While 62-22 is indelibly etched in my mind, I give you:

We Ded Mon-The Veil Brewing

The story (from Untappd): “We Ded Mon is the natural progression in our Broz series. You start off with a nice little Broz Day Off(IPA), which leads into a Broz Night Out(DIPA), that ultimately reaches a point that We Ded Mon(TIPA). Clocking in at 11%, we hopped this triple IPA just like the rest of the series with 100% Citra hops.”

It’s like having our own private delivery service in NC from this particular zip code :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:.

Credit-a trader from nrrrrvous; thanks!! (sorry, RJ, it was in the box with the Deconstruction series but made its way to my cup last PM :hugs:)
Style-TIPA
Format-pint can, all mine
Numbers-09/21/21
Cuppage-little, plastic hotel drinking “vessels”
Appearane-orangeish yellow; medium foam; my juice runneth over
Mouthfeel-darn near smoothie consistency
Tastes-fresh squeezed pineapple juice with generous portions of guava, papaya, tangerine, orange and melon
IBU-the usual “no IBU” but I’ll speculate <50.
ABV-11%
Overall impression-first tasting of this was a draft at the brewery 3 summers ago with Mrs. dd and wbmcards88 after a Flying Squirrels game (Go Nuts!) and it was as outstanding last PM as it was that evening
Ymm, Beer rating-there’s still room on the top shelf for an IPA/DIPA/TIPA brewed as well as this one; amazing beer

Luxurious Luxury Vol. 10-The Veil Brewing Company, in collaboration with Evil Twin Brewing

They’re like neighbors to us.

Credit-trader from nrrrrvous; thanks!!
Style-allegedly, an “imperial Berliner Gose” but weall know by now, it’s not beer
Temporary residence-pint can, shared with our son last pm
Freshness info-can recycled, unable to provide :relaxed:
Stemware-tumblers
Appearance-^^^^
Nose-blackberry juice
Mouthfeel-whipped fruit creme
Tastes-blackberry jam, pear puree, vanilla, marshmallow creme; not sure about the salt
Adjuncts-soft wheat, blackberries, pear, vanilla salt and marshmallow
IBU-“no IBU” but probably 10 or less
ABV-9% (can’t possibly be alcohol in this)
Overall impression-delightful after dinner fruit compote, err, ale
Ymm, Beer rating-mid cat 3; SMH every time I have a Veil smoothie and think, “how can they possibly equal/surpass the prior one that the RVA crew delivered”

Fully Loaded Baked Potato (Freaky Friday Edition)-The Veil Brewing, in collaboration with Other Half Brewing Company

Half local?

Credit-a trader from nrrrrvous; thanks!!
Style-NEDIPA
Format-pint can, shared
Stemware-snifters
Appearance-sunshine yellow, foamy and chunky
Nose-dank and citrusy
Mouthfeel-almost chewy
Tastes-pineapple and about every other tropical fruit you can imagine with some dank
Hops-3x quantity of Mosaic, Galaxy, Kohatu and Sultana
Adjuncts- “gobs of oats and wheat”
IBU-“no IBU” but probably 40s
ABV-10%
Overall impression-I think they tried to do too much with this beer but came close to achieving a really good NEDIPA; maybe next time filter it a bit (the bottom of the snifter was a mess) and double the hops and/or use less varieties
Ymm, Beer rating-a rare mid/upper cat 2 for a Veil beer; happy to have tasted/shared it but wouldn’t buy this one again; We Ded Mon was far more enjoyable

White Chocolate-The Bruery

Far, far from local

Credit-a friend of our son traded him a can a couple months ago and he shared with me last PM; thanks!!
Style-BBA wheat wine (and I actually guessed this before seeing the can )
Format-pint can
Stemware-the usual snifters
Appearance-slightly hazy light amber orange; no head
Nose-bourbon and orange
Mouthfeel-warm
Tastes-bourbon, orange peel and liqueur, wood, coconut and a hint of vanilla
Adjuncts-cacao nibs and vanilla beans (I missed both these before reading the can)
IBU-(broken record) “no IBU” but probably 40s
ABV-14% (I guessed this exactly and our son was stunned); to be fair, I thought he had poured a Larceny BBA 2018 or 2019 Bourbon County Stout Wheat Wine variant )
Overall impression-simply an outstanding creation; I think the cacao was lost and the BBA already gave the brew some vanilla notes
Ymm, Beer rating-mid/upper shelf cat 3; an outstanding product; seek one out this winter and buy it!!

The Mad Elf Grand Cru- Tröegs Independent Brewing

Ain’t local.

Credit-a Thanksgiving VP and a new beer at a good price
Style-fruited, strong, dark, Belgian style ale
Format-corked and caged 375 ml bottle (an oddity)
Stemware-snifter
Appearance-amber/burgundy, smallish head
Nose-cherries and dark brown sugar
Mouthfeel-warming
Tastes-tart, sweet cherries, brown sugar syrup, cinnamon, clove and a few figs and raisins (neither added)
Adjuncts-Balaton cherries, cinnamon, cloves
Hops-none named
Yeast-spicy Belgian
Grains-Chocolate, Munich, Pilsner
IBU-12, IIRC
ABV-11%
Overall impression-my grateful/thankful beer for VP yesterday; I like this a bit better than the original Mad Elf that I haven’t sipped for a few years but not sure it’s worth repeatedly shelling out $5 for the 375 ml bottle vs about $2.50 each for the 12 ounce siblings in the $15ish 6ers they’ve sold for years
Ymm, Beer rating-low cat 3; worth the slight splurge to try but buy the 6er, too, if you see it for a side by side and save the other 5 to share or sip yourself over the next 6 weeks

Space Confetti-Fonta Flora Brewery

Almost local.

Credit-final trader from fuse last month; thanks!!
Style-fruited saison
Format-pint can
Stemware-very large Ommegang tulip
Appearance-clean/clear yellow orange; small, fizzy head
Nose-millions of peaches…
Mouthfeel-soft and bubble
Tastes-slightly undersweetened peach jam, a twist of peach peel, hints of orange and pear
Adjuncts-might be buncha peaches in this one
IBU-“no IBU” but I know better, I think, so I’ll guess 10
ABV-4.8%
Overall impression-this would be a wonderful porch pounder on a blazing NC summer weekend but was quite refreshing last PM
Ymm, Beer rating-upper cat 2; good flavors, not too sweet and nicely blended

From Sunday and Monday nights:

GBS Barrel Blend-Hardywood Park Craft Brewery

Yea, RVA is local now.

Credit-wbmcards88 and the Family Tree; thanks!!
Style-from Untappd because I can’t explain it any better: “An exquisite blend of Gingerbread Stout aged 16 months in Basil Hayden Bourbon barrels, Bourbon Cru aged 21 months in Basil Hayden Bourbon barrels, our long boil Barleywine aged 21 months in Basil Hayden Bourbon barrels, and Foolery aged 21 months in Basil Hayden Bourbon barrels.”
Format-corked and caged 750 ml bottle
Stemware-2018 GBS Complete Set tumbler
Appearance-20W50; no head

Tastes-ginger, bourbon, dark dried fruits, vanilla, oak, more bourbon, dark chocolate, dark caramel char, leather, tobacco
Adjuncts-the usual GBS spices
IBU-55
ABV-12.5% (drink like 15% :scream:)
Overall impression-absolutely killer blend of various Hardywood barrel aged brews
Ymm, Beer rating-high cat 3; if this is in the 2021 GBS Complete Set as 12 ounce stubbies, I’d take a case of them

Serving glass-shaker pint

IBU-SWAG of about 50
ABV-7.8%
Overall impression-a very pleasant beverage

He has been working for them, and is hoping for a position there after graduation. If you happen to go to Booneshine, get the pork belly (or bacon) tacos.
