ÜberQuench'l (draft)-Heist Brewing

Sorta local.

Credit-new tap at Bottle Rev on FrIPAday afternoon and a good price on my wife's plastic currency
Format-mini growler divided over 2 nights
Style-NEDIPA
Stemware-large wine glass
Appearance-thick and juicy; lotsa foam
Nose-pineapple, grapefruit and orange juices
Mouthfeel-moderate bite
Tastes-pureed/liquified tropical and citrus fruit salads
Hops-Citra and Galaxy; double dry hopped (DDH)
IBU-probably under 50
ABV-8.2% and silly sippable
Overall impression-happy to have enough for another serving tonight
Ymm, Beer rating-low cat 3; not as good as Neon God (likely not many are); I'd buy this again and it's "little brother" CitraQuench'l which I've never had

I am headed to Total Wine and More store later this morning. I’ve got my eye on a couple nice bottles of Porter...

And, here's a list of 100 from which you can hopefully make your selections:

https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/top-styles/159/

Of course, I've learned from looking at these sometimes silly lists that you *might* only be able to find 5-10 of these at any of your local stores, whether it be Total Wine or a specialty shop :-s .

Betio Blonde-Salty Turtle Beer Company

Four miles from local

Credit-an unexpected fridge gift from fuse on our arrival to the coast on Friday night; thanks!!
Style-cold brewed coffee blonde ale
Format-16 ounce "aluminum shortage instigator" (borrowed from Jeffery on fuse's Investment Thread) container; I did not know Salty Turtle canned their beers
Stemware-shaped Dogfish Head pint glass
Appearance-amber yellow with a foamy head; minimal cloudiness
Nose-cold brew coffee
Mouthfeel-slight bitterness
Tastes-"blonde" coffee and floral Euro hops
Adjuncts-coffee
IBU-probably 30 but the coffee "bitterness" might be fooling me
ABV-4.8%
Overall impression-the coffee hides the blonde tastes a bit more than I'd have liked but not unexpectedly
Ymm, Beer rating-upper cat 2; paired well with a mixed green/fruited salad last PM; very happy to have a second can

I will be in Tuscaloosa moving DaughterPK into her new apartment so likely will miss the virtual pub. May be hard to find a porter in T-Town anyway given the main brewpub I haunt there (Black Warrior Brewing) does not have a porter right now as best I can tell (Current: http://www.blackwarriorbrewing.com/our-beers ). But let me know when the zoom is scheduled and perhaps I can snake a few minutes!

May have spoken too soon — a brewery I have not visited apparently has a porter right now:

http://druidcitybrewing.com/beers

Downtown North Porter

“The Downtown North Porter is a full-bodied malt bomb with rich chocolate and vanilla flavors from beginning to end. While this Porter is hosting a multitude of malt profiles for roasty flavor, it is also joined by the addition of vanilla bean to give this big beer a velvety, sweet finish.

“Style: Porter
ABV: 9.1“

No idea about this brewery. Might be the time to find out.

Trying to hide this from Bob Green before he hosts Saturday's Virtual Pub OY :ymblushing: .

People's Porter-Foothills Brewing Company

Local for some Ymm, Beer residents and close enough for me

Credit-Bob Green's theme; my Visa car
Style-American porter
Format-12 ounce bottle
Bottled on-01/07/20 (I had some hesitation putting this in the 6 pack carrier)
Glassware-this one certainly felt right at home in a standard pint glass
Good looks-you bet; dark brown with a large, creamy tan head
Nose-coffee and caramel
Mouthfeel-rich
Tastes-coffee, dark caramel, dark cherries, burnt grain
IBU-36 (I think; my wife recycled the bottle about an hour ago :ymblushing: )
ABV-5.85
Overall impression-even at 7 months old, I thought this tasted fine
Ymm, Beer rating-upper cat 2; a well conceived and executed brew; pretty classic for the style

Whoa! Just spotted these posts. The rest of the gang OY would be especially interested in this one. That actually qualifies as an imperial porter.

BTW, Bob is opening the doors at noon and I believe fuse is arranging Zoom for opening time, too.

Thanks, my schedule is out of my hands. Let me know when the zoom is, I have a feeling I’m gonna get sent on vacation OY before too long. I’m in a pretty ornery cycle this week and sorta embracing it at present.

Understand about your schedule. We moved 3 kids in and out of home/dorms/apartments/houses for what seems like 50 years. How you want me to let you know about Zoom time? PM here? OY? Both? Text?

:-$; don't let Bob Green read about you being pretty ornery...

I think a lot of folks are feeling that way, moi included, and I don't even participate in any of the election threads :-o

^^ I’ll keep an eye out on the thread OY for info, but just shoot me the info here or text if you see I am on vacation. (Don’t really expect it and not trying to provoke it, but my filter on a number of issues is pretty frayed and It could happen).

Long overdue review with apologies to RJ199 and the beergoddess:

Toji-Commonwealth Brewing in collaboration with their friends at Allagash Brewing

Regional, not local

Credit-trader from RJ199 and the beergoddess; gracious thanks!!
Style-fruited, wine foedre aged, mixed culture (Brett? Pediococcus? Lactobacillus?) saison
Format-500 ml bottle
Stemware-white wine glass
Appearance-slightly cloudy, gold accented sunshine; large, fizzy head
Mouthfeel-oooh, tiny bubbles
Tastes-white wine, wood, dates, pears, apples and funk
Adjuncts-Medjool dates and Yuzu fruit (disclaimer: not sure I've ever tasted a Yuzu fruit)
IBU-10ish maybe
ABV-7.2%
Overall impression-a wonderful concoction and great pairing with boiled shrimp, fresh NC corn, tomatoes and cucumbers
Ymm, Beer rating-easy 3, probably middle tier; execution/combination of ingredients, tastes, food matchups and two great breweries

Hiding another review pre-Virtual Pub, but I'll bet Bob Green discovers this one, too :) .

Porter-Green Man Brewing

Local enough.

Credit-it was on the shelf and Bob Green named the beer :D
Style-ummm
Format-12 ounce bottle (no aluminum wasted here 8-| )
Enjoy by-06/28/20 (oops)
Drinking vessel-standard pint glass
Appearance-darker than People's Porter; similar thick, tan head
Aromas-baker's chocolate and coffee (neither added)
Mouthfeel-rich and smooth
Tastes-rich chocolate, coffee, dark/burnt caramel, earthy hops
IBU-40
ABV-6%
Overall impression-probably more like an English porter; a bit richer/fuller than the People's Porter
Ymm, Beer rating-upper cat 2; a well done beer for the style; been years since I had one and glad to re-discover for the Virtual Pub

Sequestering another brew for Virtual Pub but I'll bet Bob finds it:

Coffee Hidden Pipe-Raleigh Brewing

Pretty darn local

Credit-keen eyes and an empty spot in my mixed 6er on Monday
Style-coffee infused porter (d'oh!)
Format-12 ounce container, further contributing to the aluminum shortage caused by all the soda drinkers
Freshness-05/26/20 stamped on side/bottom circumference of can BUT 6 07 20 A 5 BB etched elsewhere on side of can
Drinking vessel-pint glass
Appearance-dark brown with a larger, creamy head
Nose-java and chocolate
Mouthfeel-medium coffee bitter but smooth
Tastes-java, cocoa, molasses and a hint of blackberries (not added)
Adjuncts-coffee
IBU-40 perhaps
ABV-6.5%, a bit high for the style, but not imperial grade
Overall impression-a fine after dinner beverage and/or dessert
Ymm, Beer rating-upper cat 2; very pleasant to revisit

From Wednesday night:

Extra Coffee Variant (draft)-Bond Brothers Beer Company

A few miles less local than Raleigh Brewing but still fits the definition

Credit-featured and discounted tap at Bottle Rev on Wednesday this week
Format-$10/32 ounce mini growler divided over 3 nights
Style-flavored imperial milk stout
Stemware-cute as can be Hardywood 2018 GBS tumbler
Appearance-dark, dark brown; two finger, thick tan head
Nose-cappuccino
Mouthfeel-smooth with some java bitter
Tastes-coffee, dark chocolate, coffee, molasses, heavily roasted grain, burn caramel; did I mention coffee?
Adjuncts-must have used a double dose of dark roast; lactose
IBU-probably 50+
ABV-11% (coffee booze!)
Overall impression-not sure I've this variant but delighted to have bought and have 3 servings
Ymm, Beer rating-low cat 3; Bond Brothers, another brewery that rarely fails (but I only had a taste of their C*arolina Reaper Imperial Stout)

Black Butte Porter-Deschutes Brewery

Credit-availability as a single at Total Wine this week; couldn't resist
Style-ummm...
Format-12 ounce bottle (no aluminum trees were harmed to drink this beer)
Packaged on-01/23/20 1548 1250
Glassware-Full Sail pint glass because I own no Deschutes vessels
Appearance-dark chestnut; small, tan head
Nose-chocolate and coffee
Mouthfeel-soft and smooth
Tastes-roasted grains, dark caramel, milk chocolate and a splash of java
IBU-30
ABV-5.2%
Overall impression-good memories; paired with a leftover pulled pork sammich with slaw, potato salad and fancy baked beans; solid beer
Ymm Beer rating-mid cat 2; a couple others earlier in the week (reviews cellared for now) were a bit better; this is still a classic American porter

Taddy Porter-Samuel Smith Old Brewery

Local? Riiiiight

Credit-couldn't pass up what was likely my first ever porter when Bob Green named the featured style
Style-yes
Format-550 ml brown bottle (for many years, this was sold in clear bottles )
Glassware-standard pint glass
Appearance-dark, dark brown; frothy tan head
Nose-classic chocolate, coffee and burnt grains
Mouthfeel-soft; smooth
Tastes-more classic stuff including fine milk chocolate, medium roast coffee, burnt caramel, earthy hops
IBU-maybe 40
ABV-guessing 0% as it ain't on the label and I've looked a dozen times (but I'll guess about 6% )
Overall impression-an absolute classic; if you've never had one, well worth the $4.29 for the bottle
Ymm, Beer rating-low cat 3; #2 on beeradvocate's top 100 English Porters list
[redacted] them and the horses they rode in on.
